Top dog walkers in Fresh Meadows
Wag! Walkers know Fresh Meadows
Fresh Meadows is located in the northeastern section of the borough of Queens in New York City. The Long Island Expressway makes up its northern boundary and Auburndale is its northern neighbor. To the east, you’ll find the area known as Utopia, while Union Turnpike and Cunningham Park make its southern boundary. Francis Lewis Boulevard is located just west of Fresh Meadows with the rest of Cunningham Park running along it.
Fresh Meadows Animal Clinic is located on Union Turnpike, making it ideal for reaching from almost anywhere within the neighborhood. Here, they’ll patch up your pooch in their time of need and ensure that they are feeling their best. Marie’s Pet Grooming is situated nearby on the same road, offering a cut, blow dry, and general pamper for your doggie pal. You should also be able to find all the supplies nearby too. Try Pet Supplies of Bayside on Union Turnpike for everyday necessities.
What is the terrain like in Fresh Meadows?
Fresh Meadows has a moderate hilly terrain. You shouldn’t find any extremely steep inclines, but there is a gentle slope upwards as you head south towards Jamaica Estates. The terrain makes a dip around the neighborhood of Utopia, reaching around 30 feet at its lowest level. From there, it rises, reaching it maximum elevation at 150 feet above sea level. If you’re walking in Fresh Meadows, stick to the center of the neighborhood to avoid the steepest areas.
Despite its name evoking images of clean and fragrant grassy terrain, in reality, the neighborhood of Fresh Meadows is a little more artificial than that. In the past, the area was actually made up of mostly salt meadows, but nowadays, the majority of the land is residential housing, serviced by asphalt streets and sidewalks as per almost any neighborhood in Queens. It should, therefore, not be a surprise to hear that for natural terrain, you’ll have to head towards a park or greenway.
How many greenways are there in Fresh Meadows?
Fresh Meadows is surrounded by a few large greenways that are perfect for visiting for both daily and long weekend walks. Cunningham Park can be found to the east and the south of the neighborhood. This large park has plenty of space to run and play and is big enough that games of fetch will provide hours of fun!
In the north, you’ll find Kissena Corridor Park. This can be accessed from Cunningham Park, providing a corridor into Kissena Park itself in the northwest. These parks provide miles of trails that are ideal for roaming around on a casual weekend afternoon. There is a golf course nearby, as well as a number of sports courts. In fact, from here, you can carry on for miles through Queens travelling in a semi-circle through the Queens Botanical Gardens, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and eventually reaching Willow Lake close to Forest Hills. What an adventure!
