Academy Gardens is a quiet suburban neighborhood located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This neighborhood is located in the northeast part of the city away from the busy central areas but accessible via main arteries. It boasts several green spaces, parks, country clubs and golf courses. Due to its location far away from the city center, there are lots of opportunities for peaceful walks with your dog, although there is limited retail activity in the immediate community. There are, however, many retail areas, including pet supply stores and groomers, just a short drive away.
Always be aware of the expected weather conditions before heading out for a lengthy excursion with your dog. Because it is near the Atlantic ocean and Great Lakes, Philadelphia does experience a higher than average rainfall compared to much of the continental US. Be prepared with an umbrella and doggy raincoat and boots if you walk your dog in this neighborhood and you and your dog do not want to get wet. Also, although warmer than many parts of Pennsylvania, due to Philadelphia's coastal location, inclement weather, snow, and storms, including hurricanes, are all possible in the winter season. High humidity is also a factor in the warmer months, so summer or winter be prepared to get a bit damp!
Philadelphia is one of the more densely populated areas on the eastern seaboard and this older neighborhood is well developed with many older homes, many of which have unique architectural features and historical importance. Academy Gardens is a suburban residential neighborhood that contains mostly single-family detached homes with some attached homes and some low rise and walk-up apartments. Much of the architecture is traditional, with mature landscaping and treed properties and roads. Most of the local population are homeowners and homes are well kept, exhibiting a sense of community pride. This area is ideal for a stroll with your dog, to admire the character of homes and well-kept gardens. There are lots of parks and trees to rest in the shade on a hot, humid, day if necessary! The area is relatively flat so walking is pretty easy, with lots of green provided by the well-manicured yards, golf clubs, and local country clubs.
