The weather for walking in Philadelphia is generally pleasant although some winter days can see sub-freezing temperatures and snow. Snow does not usually stick around long as the daytime winter temperature usually rises to above freezing. Summers are hot and humid and the Philadelphia region gets several days of rain each month. You and your pup will need rain gear, cold weather gear, and footwear to enjoy daily walks in the area as well as breathable, cool clothing for uncomfortable warm, muggy summer days.
Many streets are very narrow and there are crisscrossing lanes in the area that provide shady walkways due to the narrow street width and closely spaced residential townhouses. There are some trees along streets, but natural landscaping in the area is sparse. Streets have sidewalks to provide separate areas for pedestrians and their pups to walk the region. A triangle brick building housing is centrally located and there are lots of music and visual arts activities. Old factory buildings have been converted to residential and artistic workspaces and an elevated train runs through the region.
Pet owners can also take their pups to the Triangle Dog Park located nearby. This fenced off-leash dog park has seating for people and room to romp for local canines. Penn's Landing Dog Park is located a little further to the southeast and has separate enclosed areas for large and small dogs with lots of room to run and benches, waste disposal, and fresh water. This centrally located park also features views of the Delaware River and has trees to provide shade to playful pups on hot days which is a bonus!
