Overview

US natives may not have heard of Amore cat food, but it's a staple pet food in British Columbia. This small, independently owned and operated company is run by Barbara Fellnermayr, a familiar face in the Vancouver animal welfare community. Although you likely won't find Amore products at your local pet store, it's available for shipping through the Amoré website.
We give Amore cat food a flawless 5 out of 5 paws up, due to its ingredient quality and protein levels. Amore has gained quite the following of devoted patrons across Canada, with pet parents claiming that Amore products have put the pep back into their pet's step and solved numerous health issues, from diarrhea to poor coat health.
But is Amore Pet Food right for your cat? Stick around to learn all about Amore cat products, including the brand's history and ingredient quality, and read reviews from real pet parents.

Amore product ranges and flavors
Amore produces one air-dried cat food range and four different cat treat lines.

Amore Mega Morsels air-dried cat food

Amore Mega Morsels air-dried cat food
Amore has one line of complete and balanced air-dried cat food: its Mega Morsels line. This line has six different recipes, four of these being single-meat flavors: Turkey, Chicken, Beef, and Quail. The other two are combination recipes, Salmon & Whitefish and Rabbit & Salmon.
You can serve up these recipes dry like regular kibble or rehydrate them with water. Amore encourages buyers to rehydrate its cat food formulas to prevent dehydration. (Plus, adding water to your cat’s food can help prevent urinary blockages, which can occur due to too little moisture in a cat’s diet!)
All of Amore's air-dried recipes follow a simple basic recipe. A named animal protein source (including meat, organs, and bones) is always the first ingredient, followed by fresh veggies, oil, and kelp. For instance, the ingredients list for its Beef Mega Morsels for cats is free-range, unmedicated beef (including meat, liver, and heart), carrots, squash, yams, kale, parsley, parsnips, free-range eggs, salmon oil, and kelp.
These recipes range in protein content from 32.20% protein to 41.5% protein, with the Chicken recipe being the lowest in protein and the Salmon & Whitefish recipe being the highest in protein.
Calorie content differs across the different recipes but generally is around 400 calories per serving, ranging between 395 calories and 506 calories. The Salmon & Whitefish recipe has the lowest calories, making it a great option for kitties who are on a weight loss journey. The Rabbit & Salmon recipe would be an excellent option for bulking up underweight kitties, as it's Amore's highest-calorie option.

Amore Chicken Mega Treats

Amor cat treats
Amore's treats line is much more robust than its air-dried food line, with four different treat ranges as well as a special limited-time recipe that only comes around for the holiday season.
Amore Mega Treat offer the most flavor variety, with beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, salmon & whitefish, and chicken & salmon recipes. These treats are similar to hardened jerky and are almost identical in recipe formulation to the Mega Morsels cat food.
The Chicken & Salmon recipe includes meat, organs, and bones from free-range chicken and wild salmon, followed by a variety of veggies, olive oil, and kelp. These are a great high protein treat option with some recipes boasting as much as 63% protein!
Amore's Salmon Skin Treats are a great single-ingredient treat option for pet parents whose kitties have food allergies. Since they're made entirely of skin from Wild Pacific Salmon, they're a terrific source of omega fatty acids, which help to add shine to the coat.
Amore Love Bites is an all-meat recipe treat that comes in 3 flavors: chicken, buffalo, and beef. These are a great protein-rich option that includes a blend of meats and organs. For instance, the beef formula contains beef, beef tongue, and beef hearts.
Amores' Mega Squares line is a grain-inclusive treat option that comes in 3 flavors: double buffalo liver, double chicken liver, and double beef liver. The main ingredients in these recipes are cats, liver, eggs, broth, extra virgin olive oil, and Love Bite bits.
Finally, during the holiday season, Amore also releases its special limited-time holiday recipe, Turkey & Cranberry Treats, which comes in 1 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb, and 20 lb options. This recipe contains 38% protein and 34.7% fat. Turkey meat is the first ingredient in this recipe, followed by bones, organ meats, and an array of veggies and fruits.
Why Wag! likes Amore cat food
Let’s discuss some of the reasons we highly rate Amore cat food.
Locally sourced and ground on-site
First and foremost, the quality of the ingredients is superb. All the meats are human-grade, free-range, and from unmedicated animals. Plus, the fish are wild-caught! What’s more, the meats and veggies are locally sourced and ground on-site at its facility. According to its website, it receives deliveries of fresh veggies for its recipes weekly, ensuring the freshest ingredients for its furry customers.
Thoughtful recipes
Amore truly does have its recipes down to a science! Each of its formulas are made up of 80% meats, organs, and bones, 20% fresh fruits and veggies, and 0% grains and synthetic ingredients. Plus, customers can even request custom blends for their pets!
Supports local animal rescues
Proceeds from Amore sales go to support a British Columbia-based dog rescue called "Little Paws Rescue Society." We love seeing companies give back!

Concerns & considerations
Now, let's get into the concerns and considerations we have about the brand.
Lack of transparency
Firstly, there is very little information on the brand itself or if it's food are made to set industry standards. While we understand that this is a small company, we would like to see more information publicly available about the manufacturing practices and the their pet food standards.
Limited variety
We would really like to see more variety and recipes made specifically for different life stages and for cats with common health concerns like weight management or allergies.
Not currently available in US stores
Unfortunately, at this time, Amore products are not available for purchase in US stores, although you can order them through its website and have them shipped to your home.

What pet parents say about Amore cat food
"Our cats eat it but doesn't seem like it's their favourite food. bits of food will be usually left in the plates, which never happens with their fav foods. One of my cats threw up every time she ate this, but another cat is completely fine. Also, I wish that the 3lb package comes with closable tops."
"I recently fed my cat yesterday with the "MEGA morsels™ – Chicken (for Cats)", I could he loved it since he is very picky with what he eats usually!"

Amore cat food history
The Amore website doesn't say much about the brand's history. Instead, it focuses on the president's experience in animal welfare, working with various rescue organizations. An article by Burnaby Now, an online news source for British Columbia, had much more info about the brand's beginnings.
Amore's current president, Barbara Fellnermayr, became passionate about raw food after Amore donated some of its raw foods to a no-kill animal shelter she managed at the time. When Barbara saw the positive impact raw diets had on shelter dogs with certain health problems, she became interested in the brand and later purchased the company.
When she originally purchased the company, Amore only sold raw and frozen pet foods. However, due to logistical problems during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, she began air-drying her recipes to help them maintain freshness when delivering them to her shops in downtown Vancouver.
To this day, she still operates stores in Vancouver, where she offers a complimentary tasting bar for local pets to try the brand's offerings. She has remained true to Amore's high-quality standards, grinding all the meat products in-house and steering away from synthetic ingredients and meat meals.

Amore cat food recalls
We found no records of Amore cat food ever being recalled at the time of writing.
