US-based brand Supreme Source has been making pet food for over 50 years. One of Supreme Source's big selling points is its dog and cat foods include seaweed, a superfood that's high in antioxidants, which aids digestion and boosts immunity.

Supreme Source offers two dry food recipes for felines of all life stages: Whitefish Meal & Salmon Meal and Chicken Meal & Turkey Meal.

Whitefish Meal & Salmon Meal Cat Food
The first five ingredients in this recipe are: whitefish meal, salmon meal, peas, chickpeas, and turkey meal. We were disappointed to see the use of meat meals rather than whole meat products. Meat meals are often used to keep manufacturing costs low, and while they are lower quality than real meat, they are still a solid protein source.
We also notice a lot of peas and chickpeas, which are terrific sources of fiber and plant-based protein, But with three legumes (peas, chickpeas, and pea starch) in the first six ingredients, we'd prefer to see another cut of meat or a nutritionally-rich fruit or veggie instead of one of these ingredients.
Another thing we noticed about this recipe is the inclusion of turkey meal without mentioning it on the front label. We prefer to see any named proteins on the label since meat allergies are common in cats. Pet parents could mistakenly pick up this food thinking it is safe for a cat with poultry allergies, only to find it contains turkey.
We were happy to see the addition of chelated minerals, which are easier for cats to absorb than minerals in their natural state. We were also pleased to see a healthy variety of fruits and veggies, like blueberries, carrots, and cranberries, added in for extra vitamins and nutrients.
The macros in this recipe are very impressive too, featuring nearly 39% protein, 16.6% fat, and 5% fiber. The calories are on the higher side, at 398 calories per cup, so this might not be the best option for felines looking shed some pounds.

Chicken Meal & Turkey Meal Cat Food
The first few ingredients in Supreme Source Chicken Meal & Turkey Meal Cat Food are chicken meal, turkey meal, peas, lentils, and chickpeas, and suffers from the same problems as the other recipe. Meat meal is the leading two ingredients, and there are several different forms of legumes in the top five ingredients.
While all these ingredients are packed with protein, we would rather see Supreme Source prioritizing real animal proteins over plant-based protein.
Other than the difference in meat meals, this recipe follows a similar pattern to the Whitefish Meal recipe, featuring the addition of various fruits, veggies, fish oil, and dried eggs. Like the other recipe, this one contains seaweed, which Supreme Source claims helps with digestion, stomach sensitivity, and immune system function. Even its macros are identical to the Whitefish Meal recipe, and it has nearly the same calorie count (394 calories per cup).

Grain-free recipes
You won't find any grains or low-quality fillers like corn, soy, or wheat in Supreme Source recipes, making them an affordable option for grain-sensitive cats. Instead, these recipes rely on fruits, veggies, and legumes for added fiber, which helps supports your cat's digestion and helps them feel fuller.
Natural preservatives
Supreme Source uses only natural preservatives like rosemary extract and vitamin E in place of potentially harmful artificial preservatives like ethoxyquin, BHA, and BHT.
Rich in antioxidants
These recipes are full of antioxidant-rich superfoods like organic seaweed meal, blueberries, carrots, cranberries, spinach, and parsley. Not only do these ingredients come packed with extra vitamins and minerals, which can help reduce oxidative damage, but they also contain a healthy dose of fiber.
Sustainably harvested seaweed
The seaweed in Supreme Source recipes is hand-harvested, unlike most seaweed, which is harvested using machines and can damage the ecosystem. According to Supreme Source website, "...our farmers are skilled in selecting the healthiest seaweed possible and harvesting only from the top of the plant. Collecting this way helps keep the local ecosystem stable — after all, we're not the only ones that depend on this valuable source of nutrition. It also ensures that the plant can grow back quickly, providing batch after batch of nutrient-rich seaweed."
Concerns & considerations
Meat meal is the first ingredient
The first ingredient in Supreme Source cat foods is meat meal, which is highly processed and is often made lower-quality meat than whole cuts of meat. Meat meals aren't bad for cats — in fact, they're packed with protein and very cost-effective. However, we'd prefer to see unprocessed meat like chicken, salmon, lamb, etc, as the leading ingredient.
Limited recipes
A downside to choosing Supreme Source cat food is the limited recipe options. As of writing, this brand only has two dry food recipes. While these are both formulated for all life stages, there are no options specifically targeted for kitten development, senior needs, or weight management — and as you're probably aware, nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We feel that additional recipes for specific nutritional concerns, as well as some more flavor options and food textures, would be a welcome addition to this line.
On the pricey side
Grain-free recipes are almost always more expensive than grain-inclusive recipes. While this food is more budget-friendly than most grain-free cat foods, it is still surprisingly expensive for the quality of ingredients, ranging between $3.70 and $5 per pound. To put this in perspective, this food is on par with Blue Buffalo pricing, except Blue Buffalo has quality meat as the first ingredient.

Supreme Source cat food history
Supreme Source is brought to us by American Pet Nutrition, the makers of Vita Bone and Tri Pro. This business has remained in the same family since the brand's conception in 1972.
The founder Jack Behnken's goal was to take the pet food recipes of yesteryear and "do it better," a motto that the brand still lives by. According to the website, "For us, doing it better means earning your trust every day. We do that by constantly pushing ourselves to produce the highest quality, safest pet food and treat products on the market." The company is headquartered in Layton, Utah.
