Centrally located just northeast of the Austin downtown core, Rosewood is a residential neighborhood with many facilities and services. A community college, school, youth center, community center, senior center, recreation center, parks, and some commercial and industrial activity are located in and around the area. There are not a lot of restaurants or shops in the area, but they are located in adjacent space a short distance away.
Austin weather provides walkable temperatures with little need for warm outerwear most of the year. Winters are mild with above freezing temperatures and a light jacket is usually sufficient for a stroll with your dog. Summers can be more of an issue with extreme heat and severe storms. Avoid walking your dog during the height of the day or when thunderstorms with high winds and torrential rain are imminent. Spring and fall provide more stable pleasant walking weather for you and your pooch to enjoy.
With several main thoroughfares and the activity in the region, there is traffic in the neighborhood that dog walkers needed to be aware of. Keep your dog secure and make sure your pup is used to traffic before walking on main roads. Most roads in the area have separate sidewalks for pedestrians and pets. The terrain has some slopes and inclines and dog walkers will experience some climbs while traversing the neighborhood.
Homes in the area are moderate in size and, due to the age of the community, there are large trees and mature landscaping on private and public properties in the region that provide a green backdrop.
The Boggy Creek Greenbelt provides 89 acres of natural greenway also located in the Rosewood neighborhood. Rosewood canines are fortunate to have such a large greenway with a fantastic trail for frequent walks. The Boggy Creek Greenbelt Trail runs along the creek and loops through the wooded areas. It is 1.7-mile out and back trail with just under 40 feet of elevation changes. The trail is relatively easy to traverse and accessible for dogs and people of all mobility levels.
