When walking with your dog in this neighborhood, you will not need to prepare for frigid weather as Houston has mild winters with rare snow and sub-freezing temperatures. Summer temperatures can be extreme and accompanied by high humidity. When taking walks with your pup in high temperatures, heat-related illness need to be a consideration. Try to walk early or later in the day when temperatures are more moderate and stay hydrated.
Golfcrest-Belfort-Reveille is a large super neighborhood made up of several smaller districts. Interstate 610 runs along the north side of the region, Mykawa Road is on the west, Interstate 45 on the east, and Airport Boulevard on the south. An airport is situated south of the community and noise and traffic affect the southern sections of the neighborhood. Light industry is prevalent in the area and industrial areas are not particularly pedestrian-friendly.
Residential apartments and condominiums are present in the region. There are also several sections comprised of single-family detached dwellings of mostly mid-century design. Residential areas are well landscaped and have sidewalks present, providing separate safe pedestrian walkways with grass berms.
The Sims Bayou runs thru the neighborhood and the ravine around the waterway is heavily wooded. Some higher-end homes are situated along the water. The terrain in the neighborhood is level and people and pups do not have to contend with steep slopes when traveling in the region.
Several small but attractive community parks are located in the Golfcrest-Belfort-Reveille region. Reveille Park is located on the Sims Bayou and has a swimming pool and other amenities. A paved walking path that loops around the park makes a great place to stroll with your dog.
Robert C. Stuart Park is centrally located in the neighborhood and is also situated on the Sims Bayou. This park is a more natural greenway with lots of wooded areas and a hiking trail around the park for dog walkers and their pets. Andover Park is on the west side of the community and has open sports fields. A lack of tees in the park may limit the use in hot weather.
Finally, Cullinan Park is located on the north side of the region and is also a good sized park with lots of wooded areas. Hiking trails and picnic sites in this shady locale make it another excellent option for walking with your pet.
