Rocky and Maggie's Pet boutique is on the north side of the community and a large chain pet store is located in one of the south side shopping areas. There are also two veterinarians south of Interstate 69 in this region.
Dog walkers in Houston enjoy warm weather throughout the year with mild winters, but summer weather can produce extreme heat. Walk in the morning or evening with your pet and stay hydrated in hot temperatures.
The freeways and train tracks in the area should only be crossed at main streets with pedestrian sidewalks running over or under them. Shopping and commercial areas are heavily trafficked, so use caution when walking your dog in these busy areas.
There are high and low rise apartment buildings, condominium complexes, and single-family detached dwellings throughout the neighborhood. Single-family homes are heavily landscaped with very large trees that make shady locales for walking with your pet. The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills while separate main sidewalks are prevalent, so you and your dog don't have to share the road with traffic.
The Greenway-Upper Kirby Area canines are lucky to have two highly rated dog parks located in their community. The Bark Park is situated on the southwest side and has separate enclosed areas for large and small dogs. If you have a small pup, you won't have to worry about injuries from large, boisterous pups. Both small and large dog areas have their own swimming pools for pups to cool down on hot days.
On the east side of the neighborhood, you and your pup can visit the Levy Park and Dog Park. The park has restrooms, a pavilion, and other facilities. This enclosed dog park is a great place for your pup to play off-leash and socialize with other canines.
The River Oak Park is located on the north border of the neighborhood and has a great walking trail with lots of wooded areas providing shelter. Your dog should remain leashed in this park.
