This little neighborhood can be considered a walker’s paradise. All walkers, including those with dogs, have different goals when going for a walk. Roosevelt has a lot of different amenities that offer a lot of diversity in walking. There is a hub of activity centering on Roosevelt Way for those that love to window shop as they work. Food and drinks are readily available in most areas of the neighborhood and Fluffy’s amenities are just as centrally located with easy access to food, treats, grooming, and vet care.
Recreation is literally just blocks away for you and your four-legged friend as well with a large offering of places to go walk if you would rather not use the city sidewalks. The weather is just as accommodating on the average day. While Seattle does get a lot of rain, it gets little in the way of snow and temperatures stay very moderate overall.
One of the first things you will notice about this area is that there does tend to be a lot of traffic. Because Roosevelt is a key neighborhood just off of the Interstate, there does tend to be a lot of traffic flowing through here. If you are trying to walk down or near the main road you will notice it the most, but if you stay out in the residential areas, traffic tends to not be so bad.
Unfortunately, the areas that are the best for walking are typically intersected by a busy street. There are sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, but this is an older neighborhood, so many of the sidewalks are narrow and have little or no shoulder to walk on.
Roosevelt is one of the flatter neighborhoods in North Seattle. You will find a few hills but nothing that is going to stop even beginners from walking.
The congestion and lack of walkability through some of Roosevelt are more than made up for by its proximity to large areas where walking is not only possible, but pleasurable.
At the north end of Roosevelt, you are literally 4 blocks away from one of the most popular walking spots in the entire city, Green Lake. A 2.8-mile path goes around the lake and is one of the most popular spots to take your pooch for a walk. It can get crowded here, but if you are a people watcher, this is the place for you!
On the other hand, if you like the peace and quiet of getting away, at the south end of Roosevelt, you will find the perfect place. Cowen-Ravenna Park is two parks in one and a large wooded area with plenty of trails. Fluffy will get to wander through acres of trees and grass and you will get a bit of the peace and quiet you crave.
