Wag! Walkers know Richmond Highlands
Richmond Highlands is a secret treasure as far as the residents are concerned. You still have the look and feel of suburbia, but you're only moments away from all the shopping and other things you might need. Tall trees, quiet neighborhoods, and single-family housing are all hallmarks of this cozy corner of Shoreline. The east edge of the neighborhood runs along Highway 99. This is where you'll find most of the area's commercial properties. You can also find grooming and veterinarian services for your favorite four-legged friend. If you are on the lookout for your pup's favorite foods, the nearest pet stores are just outside the neighborhood to the north and south.
Weather in shoreline is very mild, much like the rest of the Puget Sound. The area is subject to occasional Pacific storms which can make walking difficult. Summers are mostly in the 70s and 80s and are mild with a few days of hot weather most years.
What is the terrain like in Richmond Highlands?
This neighborhood is called highlands for good reason! There are a fair amount of hills at the west end of the neighborhood. Some of the hills here are perfect if you and your pup could stand to lose a few pounds or you want to stay in good shape. The east part of the neighborhood has mild elevations that would be suitable for beginners and casual walkers.
Keep in mind that, despite the fact that all of the businesses are along Highway 99, this is not the best place to walk and you should keep your time limited there. There are no sidewalks and the road has a lot of traffic since it is the only major road aside from the interstate. The residential parts of the neighborhood do not have sidewalks as a general rule, so it is always a good idea to wear bright clothing and walk against the traffic for safety.
How many greenways are there in Richmond Highlands?
Richmond Highlands overlaps one of the nicer parks in the area, Shoreview Park. This area was once owned by William Boeing, the founder of the Boeing Company. Today, it is a largely wooded area with close to 2 miles of hiking trails. There is a creek that runs through the property and there is also a dog area where you can let your pup off-leash. It is a great place to go cool off on a hot day and if you love nature, be sure to spend some time listening to the wide variety of songbirds that make this place their home.
The Innis Arden Reserve is also available just west, but this is a minimally developed park that is home to a number of different species of wildlife. If you take your dog here, be mindful and keep your dog on a leash. There is a trail that is about 1.4 miles for you to enjoy as well!
