Wag! Walkers know Ridgecrest
The first home in Ridgecrest was a log cabin built in 1933 at a time when this area was still obviously very rural. After World War II, the housing boom exploded and Ridgecrest was one of the many neighborhoods that were affected by this. You will find a fair number of businesses, especially along the outer perimeter along 15th street. There are only a couple of restaurants in the actual neighborhood, and all of your pup's essentials are also a short driving distance away. A veterinarian clinic exists to the south just outside of Ridgecrest and pet stores are just a little bit farther away.
Weather in the Pacific Northwest can be a real mixed bag, but overall, the weather is pretty mild. Storms can come in from the ocean and during can cause considerable havoc, but usually, they do not last. Expect temperatures in the 90s during the summer as the area heats up.
What is the terrain like in Ridgecrest?
A small ridge runs through Ridgecrest and the area is mostly hilly. The good news is that the hills are not as pronounced in some areas, so if you are new to dog walking, do not let the hills intimidate you. There is a lot of great walking here and it is a great place to start working on getting your pup in shape. The walking here can be tough, so try planning out your walks first. If need be, cut your walks back to something manageable and extend them a bit every day as you get more fit.
Keep in mind that Fluffy needs the same courtesy, especially if they have been a bit of a couch potato before you started taking them for a walk. You will find sidewalks through most of Ridgecrest which will make walking a bit easier and many of these sidewalks also have grassy shoulders to utilize during your outing.
How many greenways are there in Ridgecrest?
Ridgecrest is blessed with a lot of greenways either in the neighborhood itself or just outside of it. You won’t lack for places to take your dog if walking along the streets is not for you. Paramount School Park and Paramount Open Space Park are available in the southern part of the neighborhood. Wide open spaces, lots of very green grass, and trees, as well as trails, make these parks irresistible, especially on hot days.
Ridgecrest Park is along the Interstate 5 border and is much smaller, but if you really need a place to get Fluffy off the hot concrete in this area, there is plenty of greenery to enjoy.
Northcrest Park has lots of open natural spaces and trails to walk along. Hamlin Park just to the east of Ridgecrest offers miles of trails, a large open space covered with grass and trees, and a picnic area. This makes a great destination for walkers!
