The park features two separate sections for different breeds, drinking water facilities and a fenced pond to make some splashes!

Raccoon River Park

Situated along the Raccoon River and centered on several lakes, Raccoon River Park is a huge and leafy recreation area in the southern part of West Des Moines. This place has something for everyone! No matter what you prefer doing, the vast area of the park is a perfect place for those who are into active outdoor activities or those looking for a retreat in nature. Apart from extensive playgrounds and picnic facilities, the place features a 12-acre fenced dog park! Time to let your lovely mutt off the leash and watch him go wild, sniffing, barking, exploring and socializing! A permit is required for visiting the park, and don't forget to bring some water with you.

Beaverdale

Beaverdale is a northwestern neighborhood of Des Moines with a dog-friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of community. The area includes residential quarters, two public parks and a few secret places at Beaver Avenue where tail-waggers are loved and cherished! This is the main commercial center in the area, offering shops and eateries for locals and visitors. Visit Micheal’s Pizza where the tasty and fat slices of hot and freshly made pizza are served with a dog-friendly attitude and a free bowl of water for every furry visitor! South Ames

South Ames is not exactly a major tourist destination. Set off the main highway and close to the local airport, the area is not shining with beautiful shop windows or exquisite eateries, but it's happy to welcome your beautiful mutt in Ames Dog Park! Tucked more to the west, a few steps from local convenience stores and behind the city’s animal shelter, the park offers an amazing opportunity for your pooch to play and run off-leash in a 10-acre area, which is divided into separate sections for large and small breeds. Bring some water with you, and forget about the leash. Time for off-leash fun has begun!

North Peach Avenue

Peach Avenue stretches along the Des Moines River and is set a short 15-minute ride to the north of Madrid. The avenue is remote from the hustle and bustle, offering a good retreat and a nice place to spend a quiet day off. You'll definitely want to check out Iowa Arboretum, which is a gorgeous nature preserve that welcomes leashed pooches! This is a lush, leafy area with miles of hiking trails surrounded by beautiful wilderness, picturesque views and the spirit of adventure. Explore woodland and prairie walking trails with your pup, enjoying the serene surroundings and the thrill of the trip.
