Southeast Homewood
Kankakee may be a nice place, but it's not the pet-friendliest place in the world. If you want to find a comfortable off-leash park, get ready to travel for about half an hour to Homewood, a village in Cook County and a suburb of Chicago. The southeastern part of the village is home to diverse but sleepy residential quarters, several public parks, and a dog run! Rover’s Run Dog Park is a roomy and fenced dog park with multiple facilities, such as agility equipment, a shade structure, and drinking water. Due to safety reasons, the park requires all doggie visitors to obtain a permit, but the park is worth it!

Midewin National Tall Grass Prairie
If you follow the stream of Kankakee River to the northwest, you'll find Midewin National Tall Grass Prairie, a gorgeous nature preserve and an amazing retreat where you can get some fresh air with your furry friend. The preserve has strict rules about pups, and your mutt should be on his best behavior and on-leash at all times. Feel free to walk around and explore the park. If you're looking for something a little more challenging, hit the Wauponsee Glacial Trail path. This is a difficult 23-mile hike winding throughout Will County, from Juliet to Custer Park. Bringing your own drinking water is strongly recommended.

Cottage Street North
Cottage Street is one of the main arterial streets in the small village of Shorewood. As you're driving through town, you will not be able to miss Hammel Woods, a huge green recreation area on the west side of the street. The park is centered on DuPage River and has miles of hiking and walking trails. The real gem here, though, is the 7-acre dog park! Hammel Woods Dog Park, a members-only park, is filled with all the amenities you and Fido need for the pawfect day! Exercise with your buddy or let him run and play free with other mutts. Have a picnic, camp in the special areas, or just relax in the shaded shelter while watching your buddy play.

North Lily Cache Road
Plainfield is a huge village located in both Will and Kendall Counties. You and Fido will want to start your adventures by exploring the northern part of Plainfield, where Lily Cache Road winds along Lily Creek. Clow Stephens Dog Park is a hidden gem and a nice discovery for a tired traveler with an active pooch! The dog park is perfect for playing and running off-leash in one of two separate areas for small and large canines. You and Fido may be the only patrons at this pawesome park depending on the time of day you visit, so be sure to bring some toys so you can wear out your furry friend before heading back home.

Homer Glen Downtown
Located 32 miles southwest of Chicago, Homer Glen is a village in Will County, Illinois. The area features lots of open space and plenty of small lakes with a few residential quarters and some convenience stores. However, just a skip and a hop from from the downtown area, you will find Messenger Marsh, a nature preserve featuring about 620 acres of wildlife and forest with walking trails, a dog park, and picnic shelters. The dog park hosts 5 acres of exercise area where your pup is welcome to run and play with other mutts. Amenities include a shelter with shade, benches and drinking water. Due to local regulations, a permit is required for entering the park.
