Little Falls

Little Falls

Little Falls is a township in the city of Gorham, just east of Steep Falls, and offers lots of outdoor adventure your pup is gonna love! The Gorham Trail features flat ground, giving you and your pup an easy stroll. The Frog-Hollow Farm Preserve has a loop trail around the pond, and Little River Preserve has two hikes – one easy and one difficult along the river and through the woods! Try the Shaw Park Trail with access to the famous 28-mile Sebago of the Sea Trail. When hunger strikes, head over to the Sebago Brewing Company and have a burger at their pup-friendly  outdoor dining tables.

Frye Island

Frye Island

Frye Island is a 1,500-acre island in the town of Cumberland on Sebago Lake, northeast of Steep Falls. Take the ferry to its 15-different beach areas offering various amenities. Try Beach 6 with its small lighthouse and mountain views, Beach 7’s shady and quiet location, or Beach 10 with a lovely path down to water’s edge. There are plenty of choices here, even for the most discriminating of pups! After a stroll on the beach, head over to Frye’s Leap Café to enjoy their fresh Maine seafood at this dog-friendly island eatery for a tasty lunch or dinner.

Naples

Naples

The town of Naples, just north of Steep Falls, offers the Sebago Lake State Park. Its 1,342 acres of forested land is one of the five original state parks in Maine. There is plenty to do for you and your dog, with hiking trails, different area beaches, and endless biking. You can pitch a tent at one of their 250 campsites, and sleep under the stars with your pup! Or launch a boat into the lake on the foothills of the White Mountains. Restrooms, water and food is available, but pack a picnic to enjoy with your dog. The park is dog-friendly throughou,t but keep Fido on-leash.

Limington

Limington

Just west of Steep Falls, you will find the town of Limington. Discover Little Ossipee River Trails with its pet-friendly 2,200 acres. Hike the miles of trails of this preserve which follow along the Saco River. Some areas may be steep, so plan ahead. Better for the smaller or elderly pups is the Jagolinzer Preserve with its 20-acres and scenic loop trail that passes the old dam and the Saco River. There is no leash law here, but your pup must be under voice control. Be sure to pack a nice picnic basket, water, and clean-up bags to keep these areas unsoiled.  

Standish Town Center

Standish Town Center

The Town Center neighborhood of the city of Standish offers 2 great places to take your pup. Sebago Lake Land Reserve is a 1700-acre area that includes the Sebago to the Sea Trail and the Mountain Division Trail. This area is great for summer activities, like fishing, hiking, and berry picking, and winter ones, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Sebago Land Preserve offers easy hiking trails on its 2.7 mile loop by the lake for some on-leash pawtastic fun! To cool down, head to Papa’s Ice Cream where you and your pup can enjoy a cone at their 6 outdoor tables.
