In the hamlet of Bangall, you can take your pooch for a stroll past trees and open spaces as you hike along the country roads. When you're looking for a pawtastic outdoor adventure, head north about five miles  to the Stissing Mountain Multiple Use Area. This 590-acre state facility includes over three miles of trails and roads. Dogs are welcome to join you in the facility as long as they're under your control. The park is primitive, so you'll need to bring along your own water and other supplies. If you want to extend your stay, you can bring a tent and set up camp at least 150 feet from any trails, streams, or roads.

Stanfordville

Stanfordville

Just over a mile southwest of Bangall, you'll find the small community of Stanfordville. This rural hamlet has a recreational park where you and Fido can get out and enjoy some exercise. Walk or jog on the trail that wanders along Wappinger Creek. Dogs are permitted to join you in the park, except in the swimming area,  provided you keep them on a leash and pick up any messes. If you're looking for dog-friendly accommodations in the area, check out The Mill. This converted historic building has a stream and waterfall on site. Contact the owners for details about fees and restrictions for pets.

Amenia

The small town of Amenia, located about ten miles east of Bangall, offers a friendly atmosphere for dogs and their owners. In this community, you'll find a furrific mixed-use pathway. Head to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail to get some exercise with your furry pal. Formerly the New York and Harlem Railroad, this asphalt and crushed stone pathway is part of the National Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. Dogs on a leash are allowed to join you as you walk or jog on the trail. After getting some exercise, grab a bite at Serevan. This fine dining establishment has dog-friendly outdoor tables on the garden terrace.

About 11 to 12 miles southeast of Bangall, the hamlet of Wassaic is a rural community surrounded by forestland. This area offers peaceful surroundings where you and Fido can go exploring. One pawtacular spot to visit is the Wassaic Multiple Use Area. There are no trails in this 488-acre facility, but it is open for hiking and back country camping. If you plan to stay overnight, be careful to set up your camp at least 150 feet from any roads or streams. Bring along your own water and waste bags. Dogs are permitted to join you in the area as long as you keep them under your control at all times.
Millbrook

Millbrook

The village of Millbrook in the Hudson Valley is about eight miles south of Bangall. This quiet berg offers some dog-friendly dining, a beautifully landscaped garden, and a village greenway. Leash up your pup and visit the Tribute Gardens to enjoy a quiet walk. Take the paved path that winds through the facility. You can extend your stroll through town by taking the self-guided Museum in the Streets walking tour. Dogs are permitted in public areas provided they're kept on a leash and you pick up their waste. Complete your day with tasty American fare at Babette's Kitchen. This restaurant has pet-friendly tables outside.
