Central Sauk City
A twin brother of Prairie du Sac, Sauk City is a small village in Sauk County with a population of less than 5,000 people. It’s place is located approximately 18 miles northwest of the city of Madison. Everyone loves beaches, and your canine friends are not an exception! If you want to make your pup happy on a sunny day or a weekend, enjoy a nice ride from Sauk City to Mazo Beach. This locale technically belongs to the village, but is set on the opposite side of Wisconsin River to the southwest, not far from Mazomanie Oak Barrens State Natural Area. Your pooch is welcome to join you for a nice on-leash stroll along the riverside, or run and play with you in the designated area.

Prairie du Sac
Prairie du Sac is a village in Sauk County set within walking distance from Sauk City. Together, these two cities are referred as Sauk Prairie. The place features several small and large public parks spread all over the area, such as Junge Park or Jaycee Athletic Park in the northern part of the village. But you can also find a dog-friendly place here, which is rather remote from the city and set to the northwest, at Shamrock Dog Park. This park belongs to Sauk Prairie Small Animal Hospital and Shamrock Pet Resort. Membership is required for visiting the park, but if you have one, the place will provide you with a spacious off-leash area, views of the river, and lots and lots of room to run and let some energy off on a sunny day.24

Indian Lake County Park
Indian Lake County Park is a dog park adjacent to Indiana Lake Public Park. This is one of the largest parks in Dane County area, offering 483 acres of fun or recreation depending on the needs of the visitors! The main entrance to the park is located in the town of Berry. This place offers your pup miles of walking trails to explore and sniff. But if you want more fun, then the Pet Exercise Area, joined with the boat launch at 8381 State Highway 19, is your pup’s place to enjoy. You will find the entrance to the dog area on the west side of the lake. Bring your pooch to play off-leash, exercise, or just run and have a blast with the other tail-waggers around.

Waunakee
Waunakee is a village in Dane County set southeast of Sauk City closer to Lake Mendota. If you want to visit with your pup, hit the road via US-12 East and WI-19 East and you will get to the village in about 20 minutes. The city center has many small and middle-sized public parks, but the real hidden gem of the area is remote from the village and set southeast, not far from Westport. Yahara Heights Pet Exercise Area is located at 5428 WI-133 and provides visitors with an expansive grassy area and lakeside views of Yahara River. The park is a 20-acre designated area organized for pooches to play off-leash, get their paws dirty, or swim in the water. Be sure to pack some toys and a towel! You’ll definitely need them.

North Dodgeville
Dodgeville is a small city located approximately 45 southwest of Sauk City. The city of Dodgeville has some really pawesome amenities for you to explore with your pup. Your pup will be excited to spend a weekend or a day in Governor Dodge State Park, set outside the city in the northern part of the area. The park is a spacious, doggie-designated spot with two lakes and beaches, providing op-paw-tunities for off-leash swimming and splashing. Fido can socialize with other pooches or explore the area with you. Bring some food to grill, since there are grills available on the beach. Bring the whole family to enjoy a day of oceanside adventure!
