Sprague
Babe Ruth Park is in the Sprague neighborhood, and features a playground and skate park where you can spend time with the family and your pup. The well-maintained grounds are a great place to walk Fido where he can have a snifftastic time in the grass and flowers. The kids will enjoy the playground or playing ball on the basketball court. Older kids love the skateboard ramps, and you and your pooch can relax on a bench and watch the action. You can also refill your water bottles at the fountain. If you want to get dinner on the way home, stop by Cheddar’s for a burger and pawrific eats on the outdoor patio.

MacArthur
A serene landscape and a fishing pond create a wonderful atmosphere to stroll with your pup at Fitzpatrick Park. There is a path that encircles the pond where your pooch can roll in the grass and sniff all the plants. Kids will also love the playground, and there are benches for a rest. The area is well maintained, but you will need to bring your own doggie waste bags and dispose of trash in the convenient receptacles. If you are looking for a place where Fido can stretch his legs and the kids can play, head over to this woofderful park today.

Wickham
The Wickham neighborhood features several pet-friendly accommodations that welcome your pup to stay the night. Country Inn & Suites allows two pups for an additional fee, and you will probably be given a room near the end of a hallway where you can easily take your pooch out for his evening walk. There are doggie waste bags provided and a trash can where you can easily dispose of bags. The Econo Lodge also welcomes two pups, but be sure to let them know you need a pet-friendly room when you make a reservation. These rooms are clean and have plenty of space even if you are traveling with large dogs. There is an area where you can walk Fido, and doggie waste bags are provided. Fairfield Inn and Suites is another option when you are traveling with your pup. They welcome two pets for an additional fee, and there is a large open area behind the hotel where your pooch can play.

Daniels
Traveling just 20 minutes southeast of Beckley, you and your pooch can enjoy The Resort at Glade Springs in the town of Daniels. The open area is a great place to let Fido have a snifftastic time in the long grass, and pups are welcome in the pet-friendly guest rooms. The front desk can provide doggie waste bags if you forgot to bring yours, and be sure to keep your pup on a leash when walking the grounds. The walking paths around the flower gardens are a great place to stretch your legs, or you can just sit on a shaded bench and watch the wildlife and birds.
Oak Hill
About 23 miles north of Beckley, enjoy a day of hiking with your pup on The Thurmond-Minden Trail. This is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy project, and follows one of the abandoned railroad lines. You need to head right on East Main Street in Oak Hill and park in the lot to access the trail. You and your pup will cross over numerous bridges where you can admire the amazing scenery. This well-maintained trail is easy to hike, and if you keep going towards the east, you will see the old mining community of Minden. When traveling all the way to Thurmond where the trail ends, you and your pooch will have hiked about 10 miles.
