Downum Acres is a rural residential area south of Bentonville, Arkansas. The region is centered around Downum Road and is a newer residential subdivision with ongoing development. There are no services within walking distance but Bentonville can be accessed by a short drive and there are plenty of pet stores and even a specialty pet bakery located there where you can obtain unique treats.

Residents with dogs that enjoy walking in the area will find winters to be reasonably mild with winter lows reaching just below the freezing mark. On most winter days, a light jacket will suffice. The Bentonville region receives only a small amount of snow per year, however, in rural areas like Downum Acres where the wind can pick up during snowfalls, drifting and reduced visibility can hamper walking. Summers are very hot and most residents will want to avoid walking their dogs in the heat of the day.

Highway 62 runs to the east of the region and there is a large law enforcement training center located in the district with facilities and a track. Homes in the area vary widely in style, with some smaller and other large rural properties with sprawling lawns, landscape features, and large natural areas between properties. The Ozark Mountains are nearby and are a dominant landscape feature.

In spite of the proximity to the mountains, this community is relatively flat and easy to walk around on foot with your dog. This rural community, however, does not have sidewalks in place and when walking with your dog in the area, you should keep him leashed. Wearing bright clothing, especially in the evening so vehicles can spot you, is also advised.

To the southeast, the Ozark National Forest has more than one million acres of forestry preserve with miles and miles of trails for different ability levels. In the autumn, these large parks and forests are spectacular with fall colors and hilly terrain provides sweeping views of the surrounding territory.
