A densely populated area, the Florence Graham neighborhood in Los Angeles is mainly residential. You will find a few businesses scattered throughout the neighborhood, but what you are most likely to see is single-family dwellings. Most of the businesses are small service-oriented businesses with a few large retailers along the edges of the community. You will find a few pet stores in the neighborhood with a few more just outside of the boundaries with access to a veterinarian hospital within a close distance. If you need a groomer, you will not have to go too far. There are plenty of opportunities for your pup to get their monthly pedicure and a new treat.
Walking is possible all year round in balmy Los Angeles. The temperatures are mild with an average temperature in the mid-range and rarely dropping too low. You might see some heavy rains from time to time, but it's rare enough that it won't be too much trouble.
The terrain through Florence Graham is flat, which, while great for beginners or out of shape walkers, it may not be the best alternative if you are looking for some good exercise or your dog is in need of burning off some of his excess energy. If you are willing to drive a few miles, there are places nearby where you can find more elevation for you and your dog.
Florence Graham is a mixed neighborhood with some areas being nicer for walking than others. There are areas where you won’t see much in the way of natural greenery and other parts of the neighborhood have nicely shaded sidewalks with patches of grass for your four-footed best friend to explore and do their business. You are advised to take time to plan out your walks carefully before you head out as not every area of this neighborhood is safe to venture alone.
Florence Graham does have a few nice parks with lots of shady trees and grass. Colonel Leo H. Washington Park is 13 acres and was previously a lumber yard. It has picnic areas and a playground as well as benches, making it a good place to stop and take a break.
Franklin D. Roosevelt in the middle of Florence Graham is one of the oldest parks in the area and has plenty of grass, a playground, and even a place to have a picnic. Bethune Park has a large field for your dog to run in and maybe enjoy a game of frisbee as well as plenty of shade. Finally, the Ted Watkins Memorial Park is the largest of the Florence Graham greenways and features a walking path, a farmer’s market, and a picnic area and playground. It is a great place to spend the day or take a break on your walk.
