Granada Hills South is located in the San Fernando Valley, in the northern part of Los Angeles. The Granada Hills area is a large suburban region, with the Granada Hills South community lying south of the Ronald Reagan Freeway. The area is bordered by natural wilderness in the hills and the Santa Susana mountains to the north and west.

Residential areas are interspersed with commercial developments that provide shopping and restaurants to local residents. There are several schools, parks, and the Petit Park Recreation Center that provide sports and recreation facilities and additional walking destinations for residents and their pooches. Several grooming salons, pet stores, and veterinary services are located within easy access of Granada Hills South so you can easily cover all your pet care and pampering bases nearby.

The weather is warm and dry; rain is infrequent and the weather is warm year round for walking. Temperatures can become uncomfortably high in the middle of the day, especially in the summer months, so be prepared with water, planned breaks, and doggie boots to protect your pup's toes from hot pavement!

Granada Hills South is located across the Ronald Reagan Freeway from the other suburban residential areas of Granada Hills. The area is flatter than the northern suburbs, which incorporate the Santa Susanna foothills. Granada Hills South also features a wide variety of architecture in its homes. While there are many mid-century modern homes that are similar to the communities to the north, there are also some smaller homes with more whimsical and traditional features. Yards feature large mature trees, with some unique gardens, plants, and landscaping.

The community varies with residents, schools, recreations areas, and businesses. Depending on your location there may or may not be separate pedestrian walkways alongside roadways. Keep your dog leashed and, if possible, plan excursions in the community where there are sidewalks and boulevards to separate pedestrians and their pets from traffic.  If you venture into the wilderness areas to the north and west you will experience rougher, hillier terrain, and require footwear with more substantial ankle support.

The South Granada Hills district is mainly developed although there are school and recreation grounds such as the Petit Park Recreation Center and sports fields within the community.  There are greenways on the edge and just outside of Granada Hills South. To the northwest, the Aliso Canyon features natural areas with trailheads leading up to the nearby community of Porter Ranch and many associated wilderness and natural areas in the Santa Susana Mountains to the north and west. This area features natural flora and fauna, some of which are protected, so be careful and keep your dog leashed for their safety and his.

There are steep hills and changes in elevations and rocky terrain, great for doing some climbing and featuring great vistas, but be careful! Make sure your pooch is in good shape for long hikes in these wilderness areas if you decided to explore them, and protect his feet from hot, rocky ground that can feature harsh vegetation.
