True to its name, University Hills is very hilly. There are plenty of changes in elevation, steep pedestrian ways, and steep roadways to negotiate, whether in a vehicle, or on foot. Roads are often twisting and turning, which makes for interesting walking with different views around every corner from elevated properties, however, walking can be strenuous. There are several areas, especially near the university, where walkways feature stairs to negotiate changes in elevation. Make sure you and your dog are prepared for the route you take and ready for some climbs in this community. Also, not all residential areas have sidewalks separate from roadways. If you have to share routes with vehicles, make sure you walk facing oncoming traffic, keep your dog leashed, and towards the shoulder of the road, and keep an eye out on winding hilly roads, as vehicles do not always have a good view of pedestrians and their pets.
Although there are some open, undeveloped spaces in the area, other areas feature densely packed houses on winding roads, with mature trees that provide shade and interest but block sightlines from driveways and for area motorists so be extra careful. The university campus features some beautiful grounds and plenty of large complexes and buildings associated with this institution.
