Valley Glen is a residential suburb of Los Angeles, California and is located in the San Fernando Valley. It is known for being an incredibly diverse neighborhood with almost half of its residents immigrating to the United States. While it is a residential community with standalone-single family homes and some apartment complexes, there are also some commercial areas. The commercial spaces are home to Los Angeles Valley College, the Great Wall of Los Angeles, public schools, movie theaters, general shopping areas, gyms, and local and chain restaurants which are accessible to residents.

Valley Glen has a mild climate with a drier summer and wetter winter months. The average temperatures range from 59° - 76°F, so you and your pup do not have to deal with extreme hot or cold days! Just make sure you always have a sweater as it can get chilly during the evenings or when a breeze picks up.

Valley Glen is essentially all artificial terrain, as it is not one of the Los Angeles neighborhoods nestled at the foot of a mountain. Unfortunately, only certain parts of the neighborhood have well-maintained sidewalks. In some residential spaces, you will find few sidewalks and few public, grassy spaces, potentially making it difficult for you and your pup to have a safe walking experience. However, even though Valley Glen is not located directly near a mountain, the neighborhood still has its hill so depending on your walking route, you and your dog may get a bit more exercise than anticipated!

The other neighborhoods that border Valley Glen includes Panorama City and Sun Valley to the north, North Hollywood to the east, Valley Village and Sherman Village to the south, and Van Nuys to the west. The neighborhood is bordered by the Hollywood Freeway to the east, so pedestrians will want to stay clear of that high-speed, heavy-traffic area.

Even though Valley Glen doesn't have immediate access to a mountain or nearby hiking trails, there are still several greenways located within the borders of the neighborhood for you and your pup to visit if you need a taste of nature. These include Whitsett Sports Field and its respective greenway, Laurel Grove Park, Tujunga Greenbelt, Kittridge Mini Park, Hartland Mini Park, Fulton Avenue Park, and Valley Glen Community Park.

Tujunga Greenbelt, located in the southern part of Valley Glen, is home to a 2,754 foot-long mural, the Great Wall of Los Angeles. The mural depicts the history of California through the eyes of minorities and women. It is often said to be one of the longest, public murals in the world.

Besides Tujunga Greenbelt, Valley Glen Community Park is the largest greenway in the neighborhood. This park has sports facilities, a playground, and a few walking trails for you and your pup to explore!
