Westlake Village is an idyllic neighborhood in western Los Angeles, far away from the bustling downtown region. The community sits in the Conejo Valley, surrounded by open land and offering a different experience from the rest of the city. As it mostly consists of single-family homes and a sprawling landscape, there aren't as many retail areas, but you'll find some popular eateries and stores in the northern part of Westlake Village, just off the Ventura Freeway. That's also where you'll find pet supply stores, a groomer, and even an animal hospital. 

This is the perfect area to explore if you want to escape bustling city life. The climate in southern California stays fairly consistent year-round with temperatures peaking in the summer and rainfall rising in the winter. Westlake Village experiences temperatures typically 10 degrees cooler than the rest of Los Angeles. It's best to check the weather before you head out for a walk.

Anywhere you go in Westlake Village, you're likely to encounter some hills. The main roads are mostly flat or just one straight incline while the residential streets are hilly which can make it a bit rough for elderly pups. However, you shouldn't even notice the hills because of the distracting natural splendor surrounding you. There's also a few country clubs in the community as well as easy access to different hiking trails. From beautiful trees and open, sprawling land to the peaceful Westlake Lake, there's so much nature to explore in Westlake Village. 

The neighborhood spans about 5.5 square miles, so you have plenty of space ready for you and your pup to get lost in exploring. Westlake Village is about 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles and you can get there by taking either the Ventura Freeway, the scenic Pacific Coast Highway, or the Ronald Reagan Freeway.

There are many green spaces and natural areas to explore in Westlake Village. Enjoy a scenic walk along Westlake Lake, taking in the mountains overlooking the peaceful water. Russell Ranch Park and Berniece Bennett Park offer public spaces with playgrounds and picnic areas. In the southern part of the community is Three Springs Park, another small space with a playground and a quiet place to rest. There's also golf courses and country clubs with beautiful greenery, though dogs aren't usually allowed here. Check online before heading to these areas. 

Perhaps the best part of Westlake Village is the open access to a variety of hiking trails and nature spots. Triunfo Creek Park offers 600 acres of land to explore. You'll encounter wild vegetation, large meadows, and scenic hilltop views while exploring the park. You can also find an entrance to Lake Eleanor Sentinel, another large, open land offering hiking trails around a lake.
