Westmont, Los Angeles is located in the southern section of what is commonly referred to as the South Central Los Angeles area. This is a highly populated residential and commercial area of the city. Residents in the community are working with the city to make improvements in services and opportunities for residents and youth, and there are many revitalization initiatives in the area. This brings a strong sense of community to locals.
The area is located an easy distance from many services for dog owners, including pet supply stores, groomers, and veterinarians, and is bordered by two freeways, the 110 and 105, which provide good access to and from the neighborhood. Many restaurants and other businesses, distributed throughout the area, are walkable and the weather in Los Angeles is almost always hot, and sunny. No need to worry about inclement weather on walks through this area!
This well-developed area does not have a lot of natural spaces, however, there are several schoolyards in the area, providing playgrounds and sports fields. Ellington High School, which is centrally located in Westmont, provides large playing fields for students, local sports teams, and residents. This makes a great destination for you and your dog, and when fields are not in use, you can enjoy the open green space with your pet. There are also several parks in the area, and although they are not large, they are well distributed and usually accessible on foot. Parks include Jesse Owens Park, Circle Park, Darby Park and Little Green Acres Park. All provide green spaces, playground equipment, and benches for residents to enjoy. Check local regulations regarding access for dogs; most public parks require you to keep your dog on a leash at all times and aggressive or noisy dogs are not permitted.
