Top dog walkers in Westwood
Wag! Walkers know Westwood
As a commercial and residential center in the northern central area of LA, this neighborhood is a great place to walk due to the many different things that are a part of this neighborhood. UCLA is centered here which also means that there is a younger student population in parts of Westwood. The Historic Westwood Village resides here as well, which is a shopping district originally built in the 1920s. The area has retained much of its old architecture even if the businesses inhabiting the village have changed. It is a great place to stroll around and you will have no trouble finding a bite to eat or something to drink. There are no pet stores in Westwood, but you can find treats and toys just south of Westwood.
Weather in Los Angeles is overall quite mild. Rainy winters and dry summers make walking quite pleasant but you will have to watch for high temperatures in the summer.
What is the terrain like in Westwood?
Most neighborhoods have at least a few hills and some of the terrain, especially in the northern regions, is quite steep. If you live towards the south end, you will find that the terrain is perfect for those who are looking to get some exercise but are only just starting out. The hills are short and not steep, but good enough to get your heart rate up.
The neighborhoods in Westwood are quite well-maintained, but not all of them have sidewalks. Where there are sidewalks, you will also find quite a bit of trees and grass which will make your dog’s walk a whole lot more pleasant. Up north in the more exclusive neighborhoods, there are no sidewalks and the roads tend to be narrow and winding, so if you choose to walk a dog through here, use caution and wear bright or reflective clothing so traffic can see you easily.
How many greenways are there in Westwood?
Unfortunately, the bad news is that most of the greenways throughout this area are private country clubs that the general public will have no access to. The good news is that Westwood sits just south of a range of mountains that have several recreational areas with trails galore. So if you are looking for a place to get your pooch off of the concrete and onto trails, dirt, and grass, a short trip to the northwest will give you more than your fill of places to walk.
Getty View Park is one of the closest just north of Westwood. There is a 3-mile round trip hike and 375 feet of elevation gain, all of which nets you a spectacular view of Santa Monica Bay. Further to the west is Will Rogers State Historic Park which was the home of the famous Will Rogers. There are several trails for everyone from beginners to more adventurous hikers!
