The Mammoth Lakes trail system provides 300 miles of soft-soil, paved, and mixed surface trails to stretch your legs and walk your dog. These trails also connect to the Inyo National Forest to further your adventure and explore even more of this beautiful area. Whether you have an energetic dog who loves to run or an older dog who enjoys a quiet ramble, you can find the perfect dog walking trail in Mammoth Lakes.
The trails consist of out-and-backs, loop trails that start and end in the same place, and a whole host of options. You can find shorter trails without steep elevation gain and longer trails that will challenge you and your dog. You can also connect trails to create your own customized adventure, all within close proximity to the town amenities.
For a scenic stroll in nature, try out the Horseshoe Lake Loop. This 1.7-mile loop is soft dirt and gravel with a few paved sections and follows the shoreline of beautiful Horseshoe Lake. It cuts across the south side of the lake through a lodgepole pine forest before linking up with the Lake Basin path to bring you back to the trailhead. This trail is perfect for families and dogs who love to take a dip during their walks.
