If you are looking for a nice, short hike with stunning views and a beautiful lake to picnic at, Sherwin Lakes trail is your destination. From the trailhead, this path climbs for two miles up to a beautiful glacial bench where you can make your way around two beautiful lakes. Along the way, you'll get views of the Long Valley Caldera and the town of Mammoth Lakes! This beautiful trail is right along the popular John Muir through-hike and is a perfect example of the Eastern Sierra Landscape. 

If you're looking for a longer day out, head to the Duck Pass trailhead in the Inyo National Forest. This trail is steep with lots of climbing, but you'll be rewarded with stellar views and a multitude of lakes as you make your way up the Coldcreek watershed. Your dog will have plenty of opportunities to cool off in these lakes and you'll have time to take a rest before you climb up to the pass.
