Core Columbia is part of San Diego, California's downtown business district. This is a highly walkable neighborhood with theatres, museums, restaurants, shops, nightclubs, and bars that are easy to access on foot.
Dog owners will find local pet supply shops in the region that they can walk to with their pups, including Urban Wolf, Earthwise Pet Supply, and City Dog. Many local eateries in the area with outdoor patios allow your dog to join you for a bite to eat. Ask at local establishments or check online resources for restaurants accessible to your pet.
The weather in San Diego is amenable to walking with loads of sunshine and warm temperatures throughout the year. During the winter and spring, this coastal community experiences some fog which can reduce visibility. When walking with your dog, make sure that your pup is securely leashed, close by your side, and watch for traffic that may not be able to see your pet well.
There are no hills in the district, although there is a slight incline down to the waterfront and the area is easy for people and pets to traverse with no significant grades. Quartyard is located on 13th Street and Market Street, and is a unique container park with food venues, a beer garden, a stage, and an off-leash dog park that residents of the area can visit with their furry friends. There is only one area for large and small dogs and it is surfaced with artificial turf.
Just north of Core Columbia, dog owners can access the Little Italy Dog Park which has one large enclosed area for small and large dogs. The surface is artificial turf and there is shade and seating for owners supervising their dogs.
Core Columbia residents and their canine companions can also easily reach Waterfront Park on foot. This is a beautiful park on the ocean where you can enjoy views of the water, sunsets, and cool breezes. The park has grass, trees, and paved walking paths where you can take a stroll with your leashed pup.
