The Buddies and Babe’s pet store is located in the area and you and your pet can visit to pick up supplies, treats, or toys. A nearby veterinarian, Kensington Veterinary Hospital, is located just east across the freeway. While walking along Adams Avenue, several local eateries will allow your dog to join you in their outdoor seating venues, including Pappalecco, Burger Lounge Kensington, Bleu Boheme, and Punches.
Beautiful, warm, sunny weather makes walking your dog in the region pleasant most of the time. When temperatures are very hot, take your dog out earlier or later in the day to avoid the heat.
Dwellings in the area feature a variety of architectural styles, many of which are 1920s Spanish Revival homes dating back to the early development of the neighborhood. On the north side, natural canyons extend into the residential areas. There are gentle inclines on residential streets that follow the changes in elevation. The south side residential areas are more level and the terrain becomes rough and steep in natural canyon areas.
Private properties are heavily landscaped and palm trees line streets that have sidewalks to provide separate walkways for people and pets. Many areas even have berms to further separate pedestrians from roads.
Residents of Kensington can use the walkway on Adams Avenue to cross over the freeway and visit Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park with their furry friends. This park has open grassy areas and shade trees, a playground, basketball courts, restrooms, picnic sites, and barbecue pits. Best of all, there is an off-leash dog park with two separate areas. The surface is shredded bark and some dogs find this hard on their paw pads.
The SR-15 commuter bikeway is a 12-foot-wide two-way paved bike path running along the freeway and is separated from traffic by a concrete barrier. Pedestrians and pets can use the bikeway, but should yield to cyclists and your dog must remain leashed.
The Normal Heights Open Space Park is a secluded greenway also located just across the freeway. This park is situated in a canyon with steep cliffs and a trail that can be accessed at the end of Eugene Place.
