Mira Mesa is a neighborhood on the north side of San Diego, California. It is about a 30-minute commute to San Diego’s downtown core. This neighborhood has plenty of local businesses within walking distance, mostly concentrated along Mira Mesa Boulevard and Camino Ruiz where there are many restaurants, shops, and services that can be reached by foot traffic.
Dog owners can enjoy local eateries that allow their pets to join them in their outdoor seating venues. Local businesses advertising that pets are welcome at their establishments include Callahan's Pub and Brewery, Luna Grill, Best Pizza and Brew, Paris Baguette, Mimi’s Cafe, Pick Up Stix, Islands, and Board and Brew. There are also several unique pet stores and a larger chain pet store in the neighborhood. Multiple veterinarians are also situated in the Mira Mesa community.
San Diego has fine weather for walking with your dog with mild winters, warm spring and fall weather, and warm-to-hot summers.
Dwellings in the area are mostly single-family, detached homes. Structures tend to be closely set and single-story bungalow or ranch style houses on well landscaped and maintained properties. The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills to climb while walking with your pup. There are even separate pedestrian sidewalks along streets so you don't have to share roads with local traffic.
Many of the thoroughfares in the neighborhood are heavily trafficked and there are freeways in the area and on the borders. Use designated pedestrian crossings only to cross busy streets and keep your dog securely leashed.
The Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is a huge natural greenway located on the north side of Mira Mesa. With 4,000 acres of canyons and natural terrain to explore, this greenery is a haven for your hike-loving hound. You and your dog will find interesting geologic formations, a waterfall, forests along waterways, unique sycamore trees, a freshwater marsh, and grassy hillsides.
A short drive to the west will take you and your pup to the Meaney Open Dog Park. This is a great dog park for your pup to play, however, it is not fenced, so you may need to keep them leashed.
Numerous neighborhood parks and greenways dot the Mira Mesa neighborhood and you and your dog can enjoy these parks as you stroll the region. Local parks include Maddox Park, Camino Ruiz Neighborhood Park, Sandburg Park, Mesa Viking Park, Breen Neighborhood Park, Westview Park, Mira Mesa Community Park, and Mesa Verde Park.
