What is the terrain like in Mission Valley?
Mission Valley is located in the San Diego River Valley which runs east to west on the north side of the city. The neighborhood is divided into east and west by the State Route 163. Public transportation lines serve the area and tracks in the neighborhood should only be crossed at designated pedestrian crossings.
The Mission Valley area is comprised of apartments, condominium complexes, and shopping areas. There are lots of connecting parking lots and access to some buildings is via the parking lots as opposed to the usual urban streets. There is some treed and natural green area along the river and a golf course and park on the west side of the region. The terrain is flat in the valley and streets tend to have separate sidewalks for pedestrians.

A short distance to the south is Nate's Point Dog Park. This off-leash dog park has 2.3 acres that are fenced and gated. There are picnic tables providing seating and a drinking fountain for thirsty pups.
On the west end of Mission Valley is Presidio Park which contains interesting historic sites and 40 acres of wooded greenway with walking trails. This park provides a view of the city, the river valley, and the ocean nearby.
