Stockton is a residential and commercial neighborhood of San Diego, California. The community is located a 10-minute commute to the east of the central business district and near many amenities. Residents of Stockton can walk with their pets to Market Street which runs east-west in the district and provides a commercial corridor lined with numerous businesses, including local restaurants and shops.  

San Diego weather is cooperative for pedestrian travel with warm, sunny days most of the year. Wittners are color, but temperatures are still well above freezing on most days. There is some rain during winter months and some overcast, foggy, and wet days in May and June, but the temperatures are moderate to warm and rain is not usually heavy.  Fog and clouds in May and June tend to burn off later in the day, allowing you to take a stroll with your pet and enjoy the sun.

Stockton is bordered by the Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway on the north side, Interstate 15 on the east side, 30th Street on the west side, and Imperial Avenue on the south side. The freeways create an impediment to foot traffic to the east and north, however, they can be crossed at underpasses with pedestrian ways on Market Street or Imperial Avenue. A loop of train tracks extends into the neighborhood on the southeast corner of the district and train tracks should be avoided when walking your dog. 

Some areas of the neighborhood are level, while others have some hills. When going for a stroll with your pooch, plan your route if you need to avoid hiking up hills due to mobility issues or extreme summer heat. Homes in the area tend to be moderate in size, of various architecture, and are generally single-family dwellings. There are sidewalks throughout the region that provide safe, separate pedestrian ways for people and pets.

Stockton has some greenways around the local elementary school and a community park. The McLaren J Street Neighborhood Park has a small open space with a paved walking path along one side and a playground. Leashed pets can visit the park, but should stay off the play structure area.

A 10 to 15-minute walk to the east, Stockton canines and their owners can visit the Grant Hill Neighborhood Park which is located a few blocks to the west of Stockton in the adjacent neighborhood. This park is situated on a hill and offers views of the surrounding neighborhoods, the downtown skyline, and the mountains in the distance. There is a playground and a basketball court with a paved walking path to stroll with your leashed pup. A cafe across the street is a great place to pick up a snack to enjoy at the picnic table with your dog.
