Bayview Heights is a small neighborhood within the larger Bayview area of San Francisco, California. It is located in the southwestern corner of Bayview with the 101 Freeway to the west and Candlestick Point to the east. As a neighborhood boasting a combination of single-family homes and condominiums, it is a sidewalk-heavy community with Bayview Park nestled in the northeast corner. Bayview Heights is a suburban area with no retail establishments, so you may need to travel to find amenities for your pet. Treescapes are present but do not offer a significant amount of shade for a long walk so come prepared with water for you and your canine friend on those hotter summer days. You may be able to find a grassy patch here and there to cool down, but you shouldn't need it too often as San Francisco’s climate is moderate with low rainfall amounts and unusually cool summer days.
Bayview Park is located in the northeast corner of this neighborhood and has a little over 46 acres of natural turf to explore and run around on as long as your pup has good manners to avoid running afoul of any other pedestrians in the area. A large hill called Bayview Hill or Candlestick Hill takes up a considerable amount of the park which can make for an exciting climb to the peak. The main trail is a paved road that runs through the park. There is grassland with a wide variety of plants and animals so keep in mind that this is a natural habitat for many of these wild species. Certain dog breeds might challenge the leash as they spot birds or small wildlife. History abounds with sightings of depression-era steps and retaining walls. Bayview Park is not a dog park so you will need to keep your dog on the leash!
