This community experiences the infamous San Francisco fog which is prevalent in the morning during both winter and summer. Be careful on foggy mornings when crossing major thoroughfares as it can impair the visibility of pedestrians, dogs, and vehicles who need to be extra vigilant for each other.
Industrial areas and freeways are not pedestrian or pet-friendly and should be avoided. Main thoroughfares in this neighborhood feature commercial businesses with traffic accessing them and the district can be noisy. There is a lot of pavement in this area and dogs walking the neighborhood may benefit from doggy boots to protect their paws from hot pavement and hard surfaces.
Warm Water Cove Park is located along the Bay and this small park juts out into the water and has paved pathways to walk with your dog right along the waterfront. Cool ocean breezes, open spaces, picnic tables, and local artwork can all be enjoyed in this park.
Esprit Park also features open green spaces, large redwood trees, and is a great place to visit with your dog for a shady stroll or to rest under an enormous tree.
Minnesota Grove provides a tree-lined greenway not far from Progress Park. Progress Park on the west side of the Central Waterfront district offers walkways and seating and for area canines, there is an off-leash area that is fenced.
Other greenways in the surrounding area include Tulare Park, Marisa Park, Tunnel Top Park, Woods Yard Park, Starr King Open Space, and the Carolina Greens Space. Not bad for what was once a prominent industrial area!
