San Francisco weather is mild with temperatures that are comfortable for walking all year around. Fog and rain with cooler temperatures occur in winter and may require a light waterproof jacket. Even summer mornings can be foggy, but by virtue of it’s inland location, Cole Valley is protected from some of the denser fogs that occur on the coast.
Greenways in the area include Richard Gamble Memorial Park located near Cole and Carl Streets. This pretty park features two grassy lawns connected by a paved walking trail and a lot of trees and seating in the shade.
At the southwest border of Cole Valley is the 61-acre Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve which is a protected natural area for wildlife and native plants. This area has plenty of trails and greenways to hike with your dog. Tank Hill is located southeast of Cole Valley and involves a steep climb through the residential neighborhood and a steeper climb up the hill. Energetic hikers and hounds can then enjoy the panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding San Francisco neighborhoods.
A short walk north of Cole Valley lies Golden Gate Park with acres of open space, trees, and walking trails. You and your dog will not get bored hiking this beautiful park and its greenways.
