Hunters Point, like the rest of San Francisco, has a mild climate with dry summers and more rainfall in the winters. Additionally, San Francisco doesn't experience extreme weather and temperatures, meaning you will likely always have a cool, comfortable day outside! Just keep in mind that midday sun can make the pavement a bit too warm for sensitive paw pads, to be sure to look out for your pup's feet whenever you venture out.
The boundaries of Hunters Point are not linear but they include Islais Creek Channel to the north, the San Francisco Bay to the east and south, and 3rd Street, Hudson Avenue, Ingalls Street, and Palou Street to the west. Cargo Way, Evans Avenue, and La Salle Avenue are also other major roadways that pedestrians may want to avoid during walks due to heavy traffic.
Heron's Head Park, a 22-acre green space, is an open space and wildlife habitat which houses plenty of local and migratory wildlife that can be interesting to see. There is also an EcoCenter and a long, paved path with great bird-watching opportunities! India Basin Shoreline Park has a natural wetland, a playground, kayak access, walking trails, and general recreation areas for you to enjoy. Carroll Station Dog Run, the nearest off-leash area, is only a mile away from Hunters Point!
Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, a large greenway with water recreation, plenty of walking trails, fishing, and other recreational activities is also only two miles away and is easily accesible!
