Top dog walkers in Ingleside Terrace
Wag! Walkers know Ingleside Terrace
Ingleside Terrace was once the site of a horse racing track and was also the site of California’s first automobile race. With the earthquake in 1906, the track was donated to the city for refugees and patients of a local hospital that was damaged in the quake. Eventually, the property was bought by a developer and was transformed into a residence park.
As an affluent residential neighborhood, businesses of any kind are rare. Along the outskirts, however, are plenty of stores and places to grab a bite to eat. Your pup's treats, leashes, and other necessities also live outside the bounds of this neighborhood with the majority of pet-friendly businesses residing along Ocean Avenue to the north. No extreme temperatures in the area make for a very mild climate year round. The only problem you might find is a bit of rain, but they are the exception, not the rule, and you will enjoy nearly 300 days of dry walking weather.
What is the terrain like in Ingleside Terrace?
Being built on top of a racetrack, you might think that this area is perfect for daily walks, and perhaps that is the case, but expect to do most of your walking and racing on concrete sidewalks. Walking the racetrack loop a few times is a great way to get your exercise, but keep in mind that there are not too many places for your dog to wander around or sniff. Ingleside Terrace is comprised of mostly flat terrain with some gentle hills, particularly towards the south end of the neighborhood.
If the hills are not enough for you or if you are tired of walking on hard pavement, you do have some alternatives, but it will require some drive time. Fortunately, the drive is short and for your efforts, you will find plenty of trails which will suit any experience level as well as provide softer terrain that is easier on your dog’s feet.
How many greenways are there in Ingleside Terrace?
Ingleside Terrace is small and very residential, so it has no greenways of its own. You do have a couple of alternatives just outside the neighborhood, however, such as Aptos Park which offers a nice landscaped path and dogs are welcome, provided they are on a leash.
Brooks Park to the south offers pathways to walk and some trees to lounge under if you are looking for a short break. Lake Merced Park is a bit of a drive to the west, but it is well worth it. The park is 614 acres and there is an abundance of trails, lakes, and a dog park where your four-legged companion can go off-leash and really get some exercise which is ideal for those that want to play fetch or frisbee. In the opposite direction, there is a 312 acre park with 7 miles of trails and plenty of native plants and wildlife to enjoy.
