San Francisco is known for being one of the most dog-friendly cities in California. The Jordan Park-Laurel Heights neighborhood is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the city. The combination plus the mild "San Fran" weather is wonderful for dog-walkers! Watch for rain from November through March, but otherwise, the ocean and the bay keep this area pretty mild year round. Stop by The Curbside Cafe or Pizzeria Delfina on California Avenue for a bite to eat and be welcomed at their outdoor patios with your furry friend!
Walking with your pup in the neighborhood will feel quite easy in the western part with the hilly streets showing up closer to Euclid Avenue and Masonic Avenue on the east side. As it is a smaller neighborhood, if you are staying within its borders, be prepared to tackle both the flat terrain and the hills San Francisco is famous for.
The area around California Street is heavy with automotive traffic as it is a main thoroughfare in the neighborhood. Parking is diagonal, on-street that can pose visibility issues when crossing the road. Use caution in this area with your pup on a short leash and only cross at designated pedestrian crossing zones.
About four blocks to the north of California Street, however, is the massive Presidio Park. At over 1,400 acres of natural terrain, the Presidio has something for everyone who loves the outdoors. For our furry friends and their companion walkers, the trails are an amazing experience. With over 24 miles of trails and scenic overlooks, our furry friends are welcome on leashes with us by their side. The trails are natural, dirt-covered paths and concrete paths, steps, and stairs. Watch for warning signs on the trails as trails are closed to dogs during certain times of the year to protect newborn wildlife.
