What is the terrain like in Little Russia?
Little Russia is centered around Geary Street which runs east-west and is the main commercial corridor with residential homes extending down side streets for a few blocks. 17th Street marks the border on the east and 27th Street on the west. The Russian Orthodox Church located at 27th and Geary has golden “onion” domes, representative of Byzantine church architecture. Russian businesses extend north to Clement Street and south to Balboa Street.
The neighborhood is laid out in a grid pattern and, although there are slopes and inclines in the area, they are not particularly steep and do not impede pedestrian travel to any significant degree. Homes located along streets are tightly packed and are located right at street fronts with short driveways, garages at street level, and living space on upper floors. Yards have some landscaping, lawns, and trees but these are mostly not visible at street level and roads have little shade or greenery.
How many greenways are there in Little Russia?
Dog owners in Little Russia are fortunate to be sandwiched between two Golden Gate Park sections. Golden Gate Park has 1000 acres to explore with your pup. There are gardens, windmills, a Bison Pen, carousel, and an aquarium located in the park. Of interest to your dog are the many greenways and trails in the area and the dog-friendly off-leash areas in the southeast, northeast, and west sections of the park. There's even an enclosed off-leash area with agility obstacles on 38th Avenue and Fulton Street. The Presidio Park section is under development but has many pedestrian trails to enjoy with your pet. This park is located on the coast and features incredible views of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge.
Other parks in the area include Sutro Heights Park to the west and the Lands End Lookout to the northwest. Both of these coastal parks feature greenways along the water that are perfect for excursions with your pooch.
