Mission Bay is a small, largely commercial neighborhood located in eastern San Francisco on the San Francisco Bay. Historically an industrial part of the city, Mission Bay is less than two miles outside the area considered to be downtown San Francisco. While there are a few residential buildings in this neighborhood, Mission Bay is primarily home to businesses, a research and medical center for the University of California, a yacht club, restaurants, access to public transportation, a police department, and plenty of public parks! It is also the future home to the Chase Center, a huge arena that is currently under construction.

As it is located directly on the San Francisco Bay, you will likely feel a cool breeze in Mission Bay! Like the rest of San Francisco and much of the California coast, this neighborhood experiences a mild climate, so extreme temperatures should never deter you and your pup from exploring outside!

Unlike a large part of downtown San Francisco, Mission Bay is a relatively flat neighborhood, likely because it is on the coast of the San Francisco Bay! This means that you and your furry friend won't have to deal with any steep hills during your leisurely walks. Furthermore, this neighborhood is mostly artificial terrain, but several public parks immediately on the coast make it easy to escape from the urban environment. However, a benefit to having a more artificial environment is that most major roadways have well-maintained sidewalks, keeping you and your pup away from cars and other traffic!

Mission Bay's boundaries include 3rd Street to the northeast, the San Francisco Bay to the east, 16th Street to the south, 7th Street to the southwest, and Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway to the northwest. Major roadways in Mission Bay include 3rd Street, 4th Street, and Brannan Street and pedestrians may want to avoid them as they will be more congested.

For a small neighborhood in an urban environment, Mission Bay has plenty of greenways for you and your pup to explore! Mission Creek Park, Mission Bay Dog Park, Turnaround Park, Koret Quad, Bay Front Park, and Street Soccer Park can all be found in this relatively small neighborhood. Many of these parks are smaller and will provide a short change of scenery during your walks.

However, Mission Creek and Bay Front are the two largest parks in this neighborhood, both located on the water! Bay Front Park houses a section of the San Francisco Bay Trail, a 500-mile trail that follows the coast of the San Francisco Bay. This trail is open to walkers and cyclists. Mission Creek Park is home to walking trails, sports facilities, and a small amphitheater for programming purposes.

The Mission Bay Dog Park, an off-leash area for your pup, is located on Berry Street and is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day!
