The Pine Lake Park neighborhood is so named because of the proximity to the Pine Lake Park. It is located in the Lake Merced District. Found in the northwest corner of the district, it is a small and quiet neighborhood bordered by Wawona Street to the north, 19th Avenue to the east, Sloat Boulevard to the south, and Sunset Boulevard to the west. As a mostly residential neighborhood, there are not many dog-friendly establishments within the neighborhood. The neighborhood does, however, provide a relaxing walking experience with the natural areas surrounding Pine Lake.

Enjoy the mild San Francisco weather, but be prepared for foggy mornings as the neighborhood is quite close to the Pacific coastline. Visibility can be reduced in the popular early morning walking hours. Daily weather will be dictated mostly by what comes off of the ocean. Mild winters see very little snowfall and the majority of rain falls between November and March.

San Francisco, overall, is one of the most hilly cities in California. Keep in mind that the Pine Lake Park neighborhood is a very small slice of that big city the terrain is relatively flat. There are a few good hills in the neighborhood that will give you and your pup a bit of exercise. 21st Street through 24th Street have a few good hills and there are also a few uphill paths close to the lake. Overall, you and your furry friend are going to have a pretty consistent flat walking experience if you stay within the borders of the neighborhood and are walking in the residential section.

The natural terrain, however, is a dog-walkers dream! Pine Lake sits in the middle of the neighborhood with walking trails surrounding it. As a natural habitat of plants, small wildlife, trails, and steep slopes surrounding the lake, it is one of the few remaining natural lakes in San Francisco.

Smack dab in the middle of Pine Lake Park neighborhood sits Pine Lake. As an elongated park that comes in just over 30 acres, it is home to migratory birds, small wildlife, and a host of trees, plants, and flowers. Trails and slopes circle the lake with a concrete walking path that connects the park with the Stern Grove Concert Meadow. The lake is one of the few remaining natural lakes in San Francisco.

Along the way and close to 19th Street, you and your pup can stop off at the Stern Grove Dog Play Area. This is an open play area that is not well fenced-in, so make sure your furry friend knows the 'come' command and will return faithfully to your side. There are no separations for large and small dogs, so if your furry friend is on the small side, keep a good eye on them with the larger pups.
