Wag! Walkers know Potrero Flats
Potrero Flats is an emerging neighborhood with new developments on the outskirts of Potrero Hill. Like much of the neighborhood, it is an upper-middle-class family neighborhood for those working in the San Francisco area. The area has a wide assortment of amenities much like what you would expect for a sea-side neighborhood. Dog walkers will have no problem finding a bite to eat or something to drink as this area is thriving with plenty of alternatives for food and drink. There are a couple of vets in the area as well as multiple places for pet supplies and grooming.
Weather in San Francisco is very mild. Being out on the water means plenty of cool, but not cold air. Expect the temperatures to stay mainly in the 50s and 60s year-round. You might see a storm or two from season to season, but you have almost 300 dry days a year.
What is the terrain like in Potrero Flats?
Potrero Flats resides in the area just north of Potrero Hill which gives it its name. The area is not all flat, but in relation to the hill south of it, what elevation changes there are seem much gentler. This is an urban area and the buildings are mainly apartments and you have concrete sidewalks as your surface. The good news is that Potrero Flats is quite small and you do have options if you would like to vary up your walk with your pup. If you want to get the wiggles out of an overly excitable dog, why not head over to Potrero Hill a few blocks to the south? The terrain is more challenging and has a better chance of wearing your overly wound up pup out. The area is a bit more residential there, but you will not find much more than the sidewalks in your own neighborhood.
How many greenways are there in Potrero Flats?
Of course, if concrete does not work for you, there are a few greenways close by that can allow your pup to sink their paws into some nice grass. Jackson Playground is probably the closest and has large fields for you and your dog to enjoy. Franklin Square is also in the area and with its nice green grass, your four-legged companion will enjoy wandering for a bit and sniffing the buttercups and other wildflowers.
Two other parks in walking distance include Mariposa Park and Esprit Park. Both are quite large and Mariposa Park has walking paths you can enjoy. Finally, there are places along the water to walk which is a good option for warmer days. Bay Front Park and Mission Creek Park are both a bit farther away so they might need a car to reach, but if your water-loving pup is craving his favorite element, it is not too far away.
