Wag! Walkers know Mount Tallac Village

Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, the Mount Tallac Village community takes its name from the 9,739-foot peak, Mt. Tallac which lies just six miles away. With mature pine trees and cozy culdesacs, Mount Tallac Village gives its residents a quiet, quaint retreat. It's easy to get into the city too, however, with quick access to the highway. Even without a ten-minute car ride, you can find yourself at a cafe for breakfast fair or a brewery for brats and beer, making trips out of the household short and carefree.

When citizens of South Lake Tahoe have all the promise of the summer season or even just a weekend ahead of them, many take to the great outdoors. And how could you not? Mountains, lakeshore, forests, and rivers all await those looking for action-packed adventure as well as for those looking for a relaxing outdoor activity. From the Mount Tallac Village neighborhood, one can enjoy all of this and more!

What is the terrain like in Mount Tallac Village?

A relatively newly developed area, the homes of Mount Tallac Village were constructed in the late '80s to early '00s, and give way to generous plots of land. Although there aren't sidewalks, the streets within the neighborhood are wide, ensuring that pedestrians enjoy a stroll around the block without having to encroach on others' grassy lawns.

A loop around the center of the community takes the guess-work out of planning a route for you and your dog to walk. Although it goes by three different street names, this oblong circle will take you around the neighborhood in 10-15 minutes.

Of course, all dogs are different in personalities and preferences. While some are happy trotting down the neighborhood lane, others are happiest when enduring a challenging hike or long game of fetch in the park. If that's the case, there's no need to worry: Mount Tallac Village is near a number of parks and public spaces where dogs are welcome.

How many greenways are there in Mount Tallac Village?

Bijou Dog Park is a portion of the Bijou Community Park that has, literally, gone to the dogs! This area of Bijou Park is divided by two fenced-in areas, one designated for large dogs, and another for smaller breeds. This is a huge perk for doggos and their owners alike. With over 35,000 square feet of space to enjoy off-leash, water stations, benches, and an agility course, you have plenty to enjoy in this area.

El Dorado Beach is a mere 10-minute drive from Mount Tallac Village, making it the perfect spot for your pup's much-deserved outdoor excursion. While this public space offers gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe, it's important to be courteous and keep your dog leashed.

Van Sickle Bi-State Park is a partnership between both California and Nevada as the park straddles the border between both states. The Tahoe Rim Trail will take you and your canine companion through forested paths, with scenic overlooks along the way.
