Wag! Walkers know Sky Meadows

Sky Meadows is a popular community for vacation rentals and condos which is mainly due to its convenient location. Endless activities lie in every direction of this quaint neighborhood. Whether you're in the mood for sunbathing on the sandy shores of Lake Tahoe, a shopping excursion, or a hiking trail that leads to an ideal fishing spot, all are within a quick 10-minute drive or less.

Despite the properties in Sky Meadows mostly being second homes, the subdivision feels more inviting than empty. Sky Meadow's roads and culdesacs are lined by Jeffrey and Ponderosa pines, giving the community a feeling of quiet and privacy even though it's just a short trip to access the highway. Beyond the sleepy firs and pines, however, adventure beckons. Ziplining through views of Sierra Nevada, taking to the slopes of an award-winning ski resort, or whitewater rafting the Upper Truckee River never seemed so possible when it's all right outside your doorstep.

What is the terrain like in Sky Meadows?

Unless you're walking around other urban areas of South Lake Tahoe, sidewalks are hard to come by. This is the case for Sky Meadows, as well. However, that doesn't mean a leisurely walk or energy-burning jog with your dog isn't an option. On major roadways, there is plenty of shoulder for pedestrians. On avenues that branch off from Tahoe Keys Boulevard, the speed limits are always slow, sometimes as slow as 10 miles per hour. This means walks with your dog around here are safe as vehicles shouldn't be rumbling by you at fast speeds, which is especially good news if you have a skittish pet.

While elevation around South Lake Tahoe can reach upwards of thousands in feet, Sky Meadows is relatively flat, presenting little challenge to you or your canine companion. If you're looking for a hike that gains elevation, however, there are plenty of dog-friendly trails nearby for you to try out.

How many greenways are there in Sky Meadows?

Although furthest away, Bayview Trailhead is only a 20-minute drive from Sky Meadows. It is an extremely difficult hike, so only venture it if you and your pet live an active lifestyle. There are numerous rewards on your way up this steep climb, including hidden lakes and breathtaking views of Emerald Bay.

In the midst of the Desolation Wilderness, Mount Tallac is a local favorite in South Lake Tahoe. While not as challenging as the Bayview Trail, your way up Mt. Tallac will have you gaining over 9,000 feet in elevation. This hike isn't recommended for senior dogs or those with a low energy level but there are multiple lakes on the way up to the apex so your dog can enjoy a swim if they'd like.

Cascade Falls Trail is another favorite. This moderate hike, like its sisters, offers beautiful views and the chance to dip a toe or two into a quaint, mountain-side lake.
