Whether looking for your pawfect match, on a first date or spending time with your kitty-loving soulmate, it's simply furtastic to include your shared love of cats, or even your actual cat, in the adventure.

What can two feline aficionados do to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate their love of cats? We've got some meowtastic date ideas for cat lovers that you and your cat will purr for!

Visit a cat café

If you’re lucky enough to live near one of the many cat cafés throughout the world, it may become one of your favorite dating destinations. These cat-oriented cafés offer an opportunity to sip and nibble with a cat on your lap. Cat cafés typically feature adoptable cats roaming and purring among the humans in hopes of finding a fur-ever home or just for a few cuddles.

Adopting a cat or kitten isn’t a requirement to spend time in this quiet, calming oasis – you’re welcome to just pet, play, and snuggle. Some cat cafés provide a kitty playpen where you can sit on the floor with the kitties around you. Others have cat lounges with comfy tables and chairs. There are typically cat trees and toys to engage the cats and entertain the humans. If you fancy one or two of the fur babies, you can usually complete an application and perhaps even take a cat home with you that day. Some cat-focused cafés pass along a portion of their profits to help support feline rescue organizations.

In the U.S., there are over 125 of these unique places, with more popping up all the time. Just remember that when you get home, your own purring fur baby may be extra curious about the cat smells you bring with you.

Visit a zoo or preserve

If you and your date are interested in learning more about your cat’s ancestors, visit a zoo or animal preserve and meet their big cats – tigers, panthers, and lions, to name a few. As cat lovers, you both can connect with their grace and power on a larger scale, and may even recognize your own wee feline as you watch these wild cats prowl and nap in the sun.

There are animal preserves and sanctuaries across the country that provide places to stay for a weekend getaway that includes mingling with their rescued animals like pigs, goats, llamas, and cats. Offering treetop accommodations, inns, or luxurious tiny houses in nature, some of these lovely places may even let you bring your own cat, such as at the Stanford Inn by the Sea in Mendocino, CA,or enjoy those who roam the property. Stay a night or longer and imagine yourself on a savannah or farm.

Plan a movie night at home with your feline

Plan a fur-tastic stay-at-home night that includes your cat and your fur-vorite date, including wine, snacks, and a feline-focused movie or two. And if you choose cat wine and cat-preferred snacks, your precious purrer can join in!

Start with some wine, perhaps cabernet for you and your date, and cat-bernet for Guinevere. Yes, there is such a thing as cat wine! Choose from Pet Winery’s purr-licious flavors like Mus-cat-o and Pinot Meow, or a can of cat wine spritzer from Cool Cat. Delicious and safe, your kitty will enjoy sipping wine with you and your cat loving date.

Moving on to snacks, try cat-safe human treats like popcorn and cheese, or make some easy homemade treats for your purr-buddy. Try Catnip biscuits or Crunchy Tuna treats!

Don’t fur-get the movie! There are many to choose from that will delight you and your fur baby. Here are a few:

  • A Street Cat Named Bob
  • Nine Lives
  • The Aristocats
  • The SuperVet

Attend CatCon 2022!

CatCon is an annual event planned this year at the Pasadena Convention Center October 1-2, 2022. Featuring everything feline, the event offers educational sessions, displays of new cat products, visits by celebrity cat lovers, and shopping opportunities for cat-themed items. You can even adopt a kitty at CatCon!

Described as “Comic-Con for cat people,” this cat-stravaganza is sponsored by Royal Canin, which will present workshops and exhibits at the convention. Giveaways and other cat-centric activities fill two days where you and your date will be immersed in cat facts and products.

Stars like Angela Kinsey from “The Office” and Macauley Culkin from “Home Alone” will mingle with cat parent fans, and a visit to The Adoption Lounge is a must! If you’re in the Pasadena area this fall, put CatCon high on your to-do list!

Take a hike!

It’s true that not all kitties like being outdoors, but from within the safety of a cat backpack carrier, they’re sure to enjoy a trek into the woods or an urban bike ride with you and your date. Portable pet carriers that are breathable and provide a cat’s eye view through their transparent bubble enclosures make feline adventures loads of fun! These carriers can be worn front or back and leave cat moms’ and dads’ hands free while they treat their fur baby to irresistible sights and sounds.

Pet carriers are also great for relaxing at an outdoor cafe or ice cream shop with Guinevere in tow without worrying about escapes.

If your cat isn’t accustomed to traveling in a carrier, it’s a good idea to make a few short trips before you try a longer hike. You can even start them off with a few walkarounds inside the house so they can slowly get accustomed to this fur-tastic new experience.

For cat lovers, finding someone who enjoys the company of the feline kind is simply purrific! You can begin your search for a kitty-loving date by joining the Tabby app, a furbulous dating app for cat people!

Chances are Guinevere won’t want to tag along for your date. Why not book a drop-in visit with a compassionate Pet Caregiver to keep your kitty company while you’re out?
