Overview

Originally bred as hunting dogs, Beagles have quickly become one of the world's most popular companion canines. Thanks to their carefree demeanor, loving personality, and expressive eyes, it's easy to see why the Beagles are ranks 8th on the AKC's list of most popular breeds in 2022.

April 22 is National Beagle Day, so there's no better time to spoil your Snoopy. We've rounded up 5 unique ways to pamper your pup and show them they're the bestest Beagle — keep scrolling to find out how!

Cuddle up for a dog-friendly spa day

Beagles are social creatures who love nothing more than cuddling up with their favorite human. Planning a doggy spa day where you can simply relax with Rocky is the "pawfect" way to spoil your Beagle.

Play some soothing music, give your pup a pedicure, or treat them to a relaxing head and shoulder massage to show they're loved. You could even bake dog-friendly treats for your doggo to snack on between treatments.

Organize scentwork activities

Beagles may have transitioned into companions, but their instinctual love of scentwork is still strong. There are many simple scentwork games that your Beagle will adore.

Hide treats around your home and let your Beagles seek them out, or play an old-fashioned game of hide-and-seek. You can even play the cup game — hide a treat under one of three cups, give 'em the old switcheroo, and see if your Beagle can figure out where it's hidden. Or, enroll your woofer in a local class if you're really serious about your Beagle's scentwork.

Make a splash

Spring has sprung, which means it's an excellent time for your Beagle to make a splash without burning their paws on hot sand. This energetic breed loves to explore new environments and run themselves ragged, so visiting a local dog-friendly beach is a "grrreat" way to spoil your fur-baby.

Don't live near a beach? No problem! Sniff out another body of water, like a pond, lake, or creek, and let your Beagle get their paws wet. Or, fill up the paddling pool and watch them go dog wild!

Remember: Beagles have strong hunting instincts and will run off if they smell something too enticing. Keep your Beagle on a leash while adventuring unless they have reliable recall skills.

Arrange a National Beagle Day party

Beagles are pack animals that love spending time with other canines as well as their pet parents. Spoil your Beagle by planning a small shindig for National Beagle Day. Invite some of your fur-baby's best buds from your local dog park, especially if they're Beagles.

Plan a barbecue and grill up some plain chicken for your pup's to enjoy, let the doggos splash in a paddling pool, and arrange a competition for the best Beagle at your party. Your Beagle is sure to feel loved after spending the day frolicking with their furry friends!

Go camping with your Beagle

Plan a camping trip if you want to push the boat out for your Beagle on National Beagle Day. State parks and national parks across the country boast dog-friendly campgrounds where you can escape the city with your Beagle by your side.

Wear your Beagle out by hiking down some dog-friendly nature trails, then cook up a campfire meal and let your pupper soak up the sights, sounds, and smells of the great outdoors. Ensure you follow campground rules and keep your pooch on a leash around camp to avoid accidents and injuries.
