Join the Movement to End Animal Cruelty

I first heard about dog meat farming in March 2015. I was in San Francisco preparing for Wag! to launch its on-demand dog walking app in the Bay Area. In every city, Wag! partners with animal shelters, donating free walks and providing donations to organizations that care for animals.
As part of our mission to help save shelter dogs, I was there to meet with the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SFSPCA). On a guided tour of the SFSPCA facility, I was alarmed to learn about a recent rescue of 57 dogs from a South Korean dog meat farm. Humane Society International (HSI) intercepted the shipment that included adult dogs and puppies crammed into a dark, dank shipping container. I don’t know who was more traumatized: the dogs who’d been saved from certain death, or me -- a lifelong dog lover who started a couple of dog walking businesses.
The good news is, all 57 dogs eventually found homes in the U.S. This was a life-changing experience that I will never forget. While I applaud the SF-SPCA and the Humane Society for South Korea rescues, the stench of the dog meat trade lingers.
That’s why I and the Wag! community of dog walkers, dog owners and employees stand behind Lisa Vanderpump’s heroic efforts to stop the barbaric trade. As Lisa urged during today’s congressional briefing, we want our leaders in Washington to be among the first to take action against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and other animal cruelty happening around the world.
