What's in a Dog's Name?

Spot, Lucky, and Buddy may have been popular dog names forty years ago, but this is 2019, people — and those names pale in comparison to some of the unique ones we’ve seen, on the Wag! platform and at the dog park.

Does your dog’s name matter?

Many folks believe that our names, as humans, can be a key to who we become. Can the same be true of our dogs? Is a pup named Trouble likely to act naughtier than one named Angel? Or was "Angel" bestowed ironically?

Dogs often earn their monikers during puppyhood when their personalities begin to bloom. The way a puppy interacts with her littermates can result in what she’s called. But a dog’s name can say a lot about the person that named it. You, perhaps?

Many pet parents give their dogs names that reflect the human’s personality. From NFL quarterback names to a favorite treat like Oreo, a pup can often end up with a name that reflects a pet parent’s likes or favs.

Names are important! Just beginning to utter your dog’s name likely results in laser-sharp focus and anticipation. When we call our doggos' names, our pups respond with excitement and love, demonstrating the loving bond we have with our furry best friends!

Is “Snowflake” as unique as a snowflake?

Every dog is one-of-a-kind and many dogs have names as unique as they are. From the quirky to the powerful, your dog’s name often reflects what you care about and helps shape how you and others see your dog. And don’t our dogs deserve names worthy of attention, adoration, and interest?
