Washington D.C. is the United States of America's capitol and lies on the Potomac River. The city is characterised by its neoclassical architectures and famous buildings such as the White House. There is plenty to do and see here, not only for the history of the city, but the abundance of art museums and performing arts venues. The city is also home to famous and popular green spaces as well as zoological parks. Hill East is a neighborhood situated to the southeast of downtown and is surrounded by plenty of large open green spaces, a great road network into the city, and even pet stores such as Howl to the Chief and Petco.

The summers of Washington D.C. are usually hot and humid with contrasting winters bringing a light dusting of snow and frost. The spring and fall make a perfect time of year to walk your pooch as the weather stays pleasantly mild.

Due to the Hill East’s closeness to downtown Washington D.C., the area is rather artificial. Busy streets slice through the urban dwelling and terraced houses slot into each other to create an inner city vibe. Parked cars line the wide streets and fast moving cars travel through them, lined with sidewalks which makes the neighborhood extremely dog-friendly. The community is filled with crosswalks and traffic calming measures to keep you safe as well as great street lighting at night for evening dog walkers. The urbanised nature of Hill East means that, to get the best dog walking experience, a good idea would be to walk to a local park.

The neighborhood’s topography is extremely flat so taking an effortless stroll is manageable for everyone. New houses that are built in old style are mixed in with the classic old homes of Washington. This fills the community with culture and history while also maintaining a modern and cherished feel.

Hill Park is bordered by Kingman and Heritage Island Park, a gigantic green space that also holds lakeside footpaths that border Kingman Lake. The park is extremely accessible with a choice of eight parking lots that are dotted around the green space. Furthermore, RFK Stadium is centered in the middle of the park. This is great on game nights when you can feel the exhilaration of the atmosphere coming from the excitement of the local soccer fans!

If this wasn’t enough, Lincoln Park is just a fifteen-minute walk away from the center of Hill East. During the summer, this park can get rather overcrowded with tourists coming to visit the Abraham Lincoln statue, however, during early spring and late fall, the park is the perfect walking destination. This is when there are fewer tourists and you are able to stroll around your local family-friendly park and take in the beautiful history this park tells.
