Penn Quarter is located on the east side of Washington D.C.'s downtown district. The amenities of the central business district are within walking distance along with the restaurants, shops, and services of Chinatown which partially overlaps the region and there are a host of other services available throughout the Penn Quarter area. Services include coffee shops, restaurants, retail outlets and stores, theaters, museums, spas, and salons all situated along Penn Quarter streets. A farmers market is held Thursdays throughout the summer months and other annual festivals and events are held throughout the year.

If you own a dog and like to walk your pup frequently in Penn Quarter, you will need some warm winter gear for chilly winter months and good footwear as snow and icy conditions can occur. Summers are hot and humid, so paved sidewalks and concrete in this highly commercial neighborhood can be hot and harm your pup's footpads. Paw protection for your furry friend might be a good investment.

Penn Quarter is a busy commercial and business district on the east side of Washington's central business district. This district is a highly developed urban landscape with multi-story buildings, apartments, offices, and retail space as well as facilities and institutions. There are sidewalks along busy streets giving pedestrians and pets a safe walkway, but you will need to watch for traffic at intersections and ensure your dog is securely leashed.

The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills to climb when walking through the district, so people and pets of all mobility levels can get around easily. This area does not have a lot of trees or landscaping outside of Greenwich, although multi-story buildings provide some shade to streetscapes. Lots of concrete, parking lots, and streets have hard surfaces that can be hard on your dog's paws especially when they are hot or covered in debris, so you might want to consider paw protection for your pet.

To the south of the Mall is the East Potomac Park located on an island in the Potomac River. This beautiful park has many amenities including a golf course, swimming pool, and athletic fields. There are trails for walking with your canine companion and the East Potomac Loop skirts the perimeter of the park for 4.1 miles with views of the waterways, skyline, and national mall attractions.

The Penn Quarter Cut, the US Navy Memorial Plaza, and National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial also provide manicured greenways in the Penn Quarter neighborhood.
